Bulldogs roll past Lions with 95-52 Senior Day victory

Wingate, N.C.----Fifteen different Bulldogs scored Saturday afternoon as the Wingate University Bulldogs rolled to a 95-52 victory over the visiting Mars Hill University Lions in South Atlantic Conference women's basketball action. Wingate sweeps the season series, improving to 18-6 overall and 13-4 in SAC play. The Lions fall to 1-20 overall and 0-16 in league play.

KEY STATS

- Wingate shot 49 percent from the field, going nine-for-24 from three-point range (38 percent)
- The Bulldogs handed out a season-high 27 assists
- WU made a season high 35 field goals
- Mars Hill shot 32 percent from the field, connecting on four-of-14 from beyond the arc (29 percent)
- The 'Dogs held a dominant 47-29 rebounding advantage
- Wingate went 16-for-21 at the free throw line; Coker was 16-for-23
- WU held a 48-14 advantage in points in the paint

FIRST QUARTER

- Buckets from Averette, Quick and Robinson gave Wingate the early 11-0 lead
- A Jeter layup gave the 'Dogs a 16-4 advantage midway through the quarter
- The Lions would get a bucket from Baylea Loven to cut it to a 15-point WU lead

SECOND QUARTER

- Wingate quickly pushed the lead to 19 with buckets from Quick, Snow and Danasia Witherspoon
- A Taylor Helms three gave the Bulldogs a 38-11 advantage at the midpoint of the quarter
- An Elana Ingram free throw gave WU the 44-16 lead at the 2:26 mark
- Mars Hill would score the last two field goals of the half from Maria Johnson and Shayla Smith

THIRD QUARTER

- Wingate got buckets from Maeola Willis and Jeter to stretch the lead to 64-31
- Two Johnson free-throw capped the scoring the quarter for Mars Hill
- Ilene Hurley got on the board for the Bulldogs with 1:16 left to play in the quarter

FOURTH QUARTER

- Jasmine Stephen started the scoring in the final frame for WU
- The Bulldogs got buckets from Mackenzie Crump, Brianna Pressley and Braelyn Whiteside to extend the lead to 45 which was the largest of the game
- Mars Hill's final five points came from Tatum Boggs
- A Pressley three with 22 seconds remaining would finalize it at 95-52
