Trojans use late run to down Wingate 14-7 Saturday

Box Score Mount Olive, N.C.----The University of Mount Olive Trojans scored the final five goals of the afternoon to hold off a Wingate rally en route to a 14-7 victory over the Bulldogs in NCAA Division II women's lacrosse action at Ray McDonlan Sr. Sports Complex. Mount Olive starts the season 4-0, while the 'Dogs fall to 1-2.
 
KEY STATS

Mount Olive out-shot Wingate 34-17
- The Trojans notched 27 shots on goal; the Bulldogs had 15
- UMO won 16 draw controls, WU had seven
- Wingate had nine free position shots, while Mount Olive had eight

KEY BULLDOGS

- Kendall Wells had four goals
- Nina Cifolilli added one goal and two assists
- Casey Roux collected one goal, causing two turnovers and adding a ground ball
- Emily Ketron had a goal and a ground ball
Arion Pierre collected 13 saves

KEY TROJANS

- Kiara Burke had four goals and one caused turnover
- Jordan Shughrue had three goals on four shots and three ground balls
- Jackie Kaderabek had two goals, four assists and three ground balls
- Meaghan Michaud netted two goals, adding one assist and a ground ball
Siena Miller notched eight saves

NOTES

Wingate moves to 1-3 all time against the Mount Olive, moving to 1-1 at UMO
- Second time this season Wells has notched four goals
- Wells netted her 100th career goal as a Bulldog

FIRST HALF

- Wingate got on the board first, getting goals from Roux and Wells to go up 2-0 at the 25:26 mark
- Mount Olive tied it up with a Skye Bradley goal with 21:04 remaining
- A Wells goal and a Cifolilli goal and an assist gave Wingate a 4-2 lead
- UMO would net five goals before half time; a Kaderabek goal stretched the Trojans lead to 7-4 at intermission

SECOND HALF

The Torjans continued their rally, netting two more unanswered goals
- Wingate got within two at 9-7 with 16:47 remaining
- Wells and Ketron scored in the Wingate flurry
- UMO ended the game on a 5-0 run
- Burke netted two for the Trojans in the fluury
- Shughrue capped the scoring with six minutes remaining in the game

Wingate travels to North Greenville Feb. 28 for a 4 p.m. start
