Wingate offense explodes in game two of doubleheader split at Limestone

Gaffney, S.C.----The 21st-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs bounced back from a 3-0 setback in game one at Limestone College, piling up a season-high 15 runs in game two of an NCAA Division II doubleheader to prevail 15-5 in five innings. Wingate moves to 17-7 on the season, while the Saints go to 9-9 overall.

- The Bulldogs left six on base while the Saints stranded four

SECOND INNING

- The Bulldogs responded by plating nine runs in the top of the second
- Two walks and a Sammi Jo Loney single loaded the bases with no outs
- Floyd, Sapp and Coyne drew three straight bases-loaded walks to tie it at four
- Reep's two-run single put the 'Dogs back on top
- Wells added an RBI single to make it 7-4, while a wild pitch allowed Reep to score
- Swenson capped the scoring with a two-run blast to left, making it 10-4

THIRD INNING

- Singles from Floyd and Sapp, along with an error loaded the bases
- Reep drew a bases-loaded walk, followed by Sells being hit by a pitch to make it 12-4
- Swenson added a two-run single to give the Bulldogs a 10-run advantage
- Kat Tate's RBI single in the bottom of the frame got Limestone back within nine

FOURTH INNING

- Floyd was hit by a pitch to start the inning, then stole second
- She scored on Coyne's sacrifice fly to make it 15-5

WRAPUP

- Knuckles picked up her first collegiate win, moving to 1-0 on the year
- She allowed a run on three hits in 4 2/3 innings, striking out two and walking two
- Haley White took the loss, falling to 0-2
- She allowed five runs on two hits in two-thirds of an inning, walking three

UP NEXT

- Wingate opens SAC play this weekend, traveling to Lincoln Memorial Saturday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader
- The Bulldogs return home next Tuesday, hosting Newberry at 2 p.m.
