Reep’s two-hit shutout highlights Wingate’s doubleheader split against Queens

Wingate, N.C.----A year after no-hitting the Queens University Royals, junior right-hander Aubrey Reep took a no-hitter into the seventh inning of game two Wednesday afternoon, finishing with a two-hit shutout to lead the Bulldogs to a 3-0 victory in game two of a South Atlantic Conference softball doubleheader. Queens took the opener 3-2. Wingate moves to 29-15 overall and 8-8 in the SAC, while the Royals go to 20-10 overall and 8-6 in league play.

- Wingate out-hit Queens 5-4
- The 'Dogs had three extra-base hits compared to two from the Royals; Queens had the lone homer
- Queens pitching struck out four and walked five; Wingate struck out 11 and walked six
- Wingate left seven on base; Queens stranded five
- The Royals stole two bases and were caught twice

KEY BULLDOGS

- Sammi Jo Loney was two-for-three with a double and two RBI
- Mary Claire Coyne added two hits including a double, scoring a run
- Aubrey Reep added a double and run scored
- Rachel Weidner struck out 11 in seven innings of work, allowing just four hits

FIRST INNING

- Gerlea Patton drew a leadoff walk, then moved to second on a sacrifice

- Coyne led off the frame with a single, while Reep followed with a double
- Loney got Wingate within a run with a two-run double to right center, making it 3-2

- Courtney Pearson got the win, moving to 13-3
- She allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings, striking out four and walking five
- Weidner took the loss, falling to 14-7
- She allowed three runs on four hits in seven innings, striking out 11 and walking six

- Shannon McGuire took the loss, falling to 6-5
- She allowed three runs on seven hits in five innings, striking out two and walking four
