Bulldogs and Indians split Wednesday doubleheader

Wingate, N.C.----The Catawba College Indians scored the go-ahead run with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to pick up a 6-5 victory in game one at Wingate University, while the Bulldogs prevailed 6-2 in game two of the South Atlantic Conference softball doubleheader. Wingate moves to 27-13 overall and 6-6 in the SAC, while the Indians move to 18-15 overall and 6-6 in league play.

- Catawba out-hit Wingate 10-7 in game one
- The Indians had two of the three extra-base hits and the lone homer
- Wingate left eight on base; Catawba stranded six

- Cashwell walked to start the frame, stole a base, then scored on Sapp's RBI single
- Swenson's RBI groundout plated Sapp to tie it at four
- A Catawba error allowed Mary Claire Coyne to score, putting Wingate on top 5-4

- Gracie Gibson hit the first pitch of the frame over the fence in left center to tie it at five

SEVENTH INNING

- Dean started the two-out rally with a single, then stole second
- She scored on an RBI single from Huggins to give Catawba the 6-5 advantage

- Madison Hunter got the win, moving to 9-4
- She allowed three runs on three hits in three innings, striking out two and walking two
- Knuckles took the loss, falling to 1-3
- She allowed a run on three hits in two innings, striking out three
