Michael Carson (Detroit, Mich.) finished 15th in the men's 100 meter dash preliminaries at the NCAA Division II national outdoor track and field championships Thursday night in Javelina Stadium (
complete results). Twenty runners competed in the men's 100 meter dash preliminaries.
In the third and final preliminary heat, Carson recorded a time of 10.51 under windy conditions. Academy of Art (Calif.) senior
Mobolade Ajomale had the fastest preliminary time with his 10.16 clocking. Tiffin (Ohio) junior
Jonte Baker was second (10.22), while Carson-Newman freshman
Devon Moore was third (10.26). Moore entered the race as the number one seed.
"Mike moved up to 15th in the country after coming in 19th," Wingate University distance coach
Ashley Glover says. "Of course, he wasn't satisfied with his finish. This is who he is and why he made it this far. I'm proud of the journey he has taken through transitioning to Wingate and persevering through injury. He's leaving Wingate with his name in the record books."
CARSON NOTES
Carson concludes his Bulldog career with Thursday night's race. He set a WU men's 100 meter dash school record in April's South Atlantic Conference outdoor track and field championships with his preliminary time of 10.40. Carson ran a 10.48 in the Mount Olive First Chance meet on May 11. He was named to the USTFCCCA All-Southeast Region team in his specialty event last week.

Darius 'Dash' Weathers (Columbia, S.C.) will compete in the men's triple jump Friday at 5:45 p.m. EDT. Weathers is making his second consecutive appearance at nationals, as he qualified for the 2019 NCAA indoor meet as well. Weathers saved his best for last, qualifying for NCAAs at the Mount Olive Last Chance meet. His mark of 15.09 meters is a season and personal-best leap. The number one seed is West Texas A&M senior
Abraham Seaneke with his mark of 16.02 meters.
