Bulldogs fall at home against #24 Royals

Wingate, N.C.----The Queens University Royals raced out to a 20-5 lead Wednesday evening en route to a 77-59 victory over the Wingate University Bulldogs in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action in Cuddy Arena. The Royals improve to 14-3 overall and 9-2 in the SAC, while the Bulldogs fall to 7-10 overall and 3-8 in league play.

KEY STATS

- Queens shot 47 percent from the field and hit seven-of-23 threes (30 percent)
- Wingate shot 32 percent from the field, connecting on six-of-37 threes (16 percent)
- The Royals held a 45-36 rebounding advantage and 12-8 edge in second-chance points
- Queens had a 38-22 advantage in points in the paint
- The 'Dogs converted 11 Queens turnovers into 16 points

KEY BULLDOGS

- Jarren Cottingham had 13 points, three rebounds and two assists
- Miguel Priest added 11 points and 13 rebounds to go along with two assists and two steals
- Kendrick Tucker had nine points and three boards
- Shaman Alston also had nine points for the Bulldogs

FIRST HALF

- A Junathean Cunningham bucket gave Queens a 17-4 lead at the 11:46 mark
- A Priest layup got the 'Dogs within 12, but a Jamari Smith bucket pushed the lead back to 16
- Wilson buried a three to make it 24-11 with 8:19 remaining
- A Kenny Dye triple and two Daniel Carr free throws gave the Royals a 38-12 advantage
- Wingate scored the next eight, getting a Jakob Dawkins bucket and two Wilson free throws to make it 38-20
- Dawkins knocked down a triple to get the 'Dogs within 15 with two minutes remaining
- Two Carr free throws gave the Royals a 46-25 advantage at halftime

SECOND HALF

- Dunks from Cottingham and Quantra Taylor got the 'Dogs within 15 early in the second half
- A Carr layup pushed the Queens advantage back to 21 at the 13:28 mark
- A Tucker triple pulled the Bulldogs within 16 at the midway point
- Gavin Rains pushed the advantage back to 20 with a layup at the 9:52 mark
- Van Turner's triple put the Royals on top 68-46 with 6:42 remaining
- The Bulldogs got no closer than 18 the rest of the way
