Wingate, N.C.----The Carson-Newman University Eagles opened the second half on a 13-0 run Tuesday afternoon, erasing a five-point halftime deficit en route to a 78-71 victory over visiting in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action in Cuddy Arena. The Eagles improve to 1-1 overall and 1-1 in the SAC, while the Bulldogs fall to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in league play.

FIRST HALF
- A Bryant Thomas three gave the Eagles an early 12-4 lead
- A Cottingham three and Pringle layup got the 'Dogs within three at the 11:59 mark
- Sio scored seven straight points to give Wingate a 20-17 advantage with 8:38 to go
- A Tyler Bowens bucket put the Eagles back on top by three just over a minute later
- Sio buried a triple with 3:46 to go to put the 'Dogs on top 31-27
- A triple and layup from Cottingham gave Wingate a 36-29 lead with 2:42 to go
- Tucker buried a three to cap a 13-4 run and put WU on top by eight with two minutes left
- The Eagles scored the next seven, cutting the lead to one on an EJ Bush jumper
- A Taylor layup, followed by a Sio steal and Cottingham dunk at the buzzer gave WU a 43-38 advantage
SECOND HALF
- Carson-Newman scored the first 13 points of the second half in just over three minutes
- Luke Brenegan's three at the 16:47 mark gave the Eagles a 51-43 advantage
- Cottingham's triple got the 'Dogs back within three a minute later
- Kaleb Wallace knocked down a three at the 11:41 mark to put the Eagles on top by 11
- Two Priest free throws and a Taylor putback pulled the 'Dogs within six at the 7:43 mark
- A Pringle layup and Sio triple got Wingate within five at 74-69 with three minutes left
- The 'Dogs could get no closer the rest of the way.
