Bulldogs drop two on first day of Florida trip

St. Augustine, Fla.----The Wingate University Bulldogs dropped a pair of contests Saturday evening, falling in a tight 4-3 contest against Tampa in the opener before dropping a 7-3 decision against Embry-Riddle in game two. Wingate falls to 0-4 on the season.

GAME ONE | Tampa 4 Wingate 3

- Wingate out-hit Tampa 7-3
- The Spartans had all three extra-base hits including both homers
- The Bulldogs left nine on base; Tampa stranded just one runner
- WU pitching struck out six and walked one; UT had 11 strikeouts and two walks
- The Spartans committed two of the three errors

KEY BULLDOGS

- Emma Swenson was three-for-four with two runs scored
- Jordan Floyd had a hit and two RBI
- Rebekah Woods also drove in a run for the Bulldogs
- Haley Cashwell drew two walks and scored a run

FIRST INNING

- Cashwell drew a walk, then moved to second on Swenson's single
- Aubrey Reep followed with a single to load the bases
- Floyd's RBI groundout plated the first run, while Woods plated Swenson to make it 2-0
- Tampa tied it in the bottom of the frame on a two-run shot from Corynn Miner

FOURTH INNING

- The Spartans took a 4-2 lead on a two-run homer from Bailey Phillips

FIFTH INNING

- Swenson reached on a two-out single, then moved to second on a Reep single
- Floyd's RBI single got Wingate within a run

SIXTH INNING

- The Bulldogs got two on with a walk and a single, but both were stranded

WRAPUP

- Miner got the win, moving to 3-1
- She allowed three runs on seven hits in seven innings, striking out 11 and walking two
- Reep took the loss, falling to 0-1
- She allowed two earned runs on three hits in six innings, striking out six and walking one

- A Wingate error and Maggie Scott RBI single gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead

- A Floyd sacrifice moved the runners to second and third
- Reep's two-out, two-run single tied it at two

FOURTH INNING

- Scott's two-run double put Embry-Riddle back on top
- ReAnne Drayton capped the five-run inning with an RBI single, making it 7-2

SIXTH INNING

- Two walks and a Jordan McDuffie single loaded the bases for the Bulldogs
- McNeil drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 7-3
- Gracyn Polk scored on a passed ball to get Wingate within three
- Back-to-back popouts ended the threat

WRAPUP

- Lisa Hop got the win, allowing two runs on three hits in 2 1/3 innings, moving to 1-0
- Raechel Cutcher took the loss, allowing two earned runs on five hits in 3 1/3 innings, striking out two
