Bulldogs push winning streak to five with 3-1 win at Newberry

Newberry, S.C.----For the second straight day, it was Wingate University middle blockers Sophie Schaff and Maggie Young leading the way, combining for 26 kills and both hitting over .390 to lead the Bulldogs to a 3-1 victory at Newberry College in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action. Wingate won by scores of 25-17, 22-25, 25-15 and 25-23 to improve to 10-2 overall and 6-2 in the SAC. The Wolves fall to 8-5 overall and 3-3 in league play.

- Wingate hit .184 on the match; Newberry hit .096
- The 'Dogs had 54 kills and 25 errors in 158 attacks
- The Wolves had 42 kills and 27 errors in 157 swings

- Lorna Stacherski contributed seven kills, five digs and two blocks
- Molly Lambillotte collected six kills and 13 digs
- Marianna Warren also had six kills for the Bulldogs
- Quin Sutphin chipped in with five kills and a pair of blocks
- Shannon Kasprak handed out 30 assists, adding 17 digs and three kills
- Taryn Pryce and Maggie Mullen picked up 14 digs apiece

FIRST SET

- A kill and a block from Lambillotte gave the 'Dogs an early 8-5 lead
- A Zoe Dinkins block pulled Newberry within one at 10-9
- Wingate scored six of the next seven, getting two Warren kills to go on top 16-10
- Schaff and Lambillotte each had a kill in a 4-0 run that made it 22-13
- A Schaff kill put the 'Dogs on top 24-17; a block from Schaff and Sutphin ended it

SECOND SET

- Newberry scored the first seven, taking a 7-0 lead on a Taylor Hall kill
- A Natasha Bannister kill made it 12-3
- A Sutphin kill trimmed the lead to seven, but a Hall kill made it 15-7
- WU scored the next six, getting a kill and a block from Lambillotte to make it 15-13
- A kill and a block from Dinkins pushed the lead back to four at 19-15
- A Wingate error put the Wolves on top 23-18, but the 'Dogs scored the next four
- A block from Young and Stacherski pulled WU within a point at 23-22
- A Margaret McMahon kill made it 24-22; a Dinkins kill ended it

THIRD SET

- Kills from Schaff and Warren, along with a Young block gave WU an 8-3 lead
- The 'Dogs added a 6-0 run, getting two Young kills to take a 15-5 advantage
- Two Schaff kills, along with a Stacherski kill capped another 6-0 run to make it 21-7
- Kills from Schaff and Sutphin made it 24-13; a Warren kill ended the frame

FOURTH SET

- Two Schaff kill and a Kasey Eastland ace gave WU a 7-4 lead
- Kills from Kasprak and Warren pushed the lead to five at 10-5
- An Avery Webb ace capped a 4-0 run that pulled the Wolves to within one
- Two kills from Young pushed the lead back to three at 15-12
- Dinkins capped a 4-1 run with a kill to tie it at 17
- WU answered with a 3-0 run, getting back-to-back Sutphin kills to go up 20-17
- Newberry scored the next four, taking a 21-20 lead on a Bannister kill
- Back-to-back Young kills put Wingate back on top, but a Bulldog error tied it at 23
- A Newberry error put WU on top 24-23; Stacherski ended the match with a kill
