#16 Wingate falls to Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday night

Wingate, N.C.----The Lenoir-Rhyne University Bears kept 16th-ranked Wingate University out of the end zone Saturday night picking up a 31-6 victory over the Bulldogs in South Atlantic Conference football action at Irwin Belk Stadium. LR improves to 6-2 overall and 5-2 in the SAC, while the Bulldogs fall to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in league play.  

KEY STATS

- LR had 445 yards of offense; Wingate had 317 yards
- The Bears ran for 234 yards and threw for 211 yards
- WU threw for 203 yards and ran for 114
- The Bears held a 21-14 advantage in first downs
- The Bulldogs had the only two turnovers on the night
- Lenoir-Rhyne was four-for-13 on third down; Wingate was four-for-14
- The Bears held the ball for just over 33 minutes in the contest
- LR had three sacks in the game; WU had a pair of sacks on the night

- Nijere Peoples ran for 106 yards on 16 carries
- Shaw Crocker threw for 203 yards
- RJ Mobley had five receptions for 83 yards
- Myles Dillon added two catches for 43 yards
- Romario Johnson had 10 tackles and a pass break-up
- Kendrick Hicks added nine stops including a pair of TFLs
- Jaquan Edwards had six tackles, 0.5 sacks and a pass break-up

- McLean Robertson connected on field goals of 26 and 40 yards
- Ethan Evans had eight punts, averaging 47.9 yards per attempt
- He put four punts inside the 20, with a career-long punt of 72 yards

- Ra'Quan Simmons had a 23-yard punt return

FIRST QUARTER

- LR went 75 yards on the opening possession
- A Kelin Parsons 60-yard run got it to the Wingate four
- Dwayne McGee scored from four yards out on the next play
- The Bears added a TD in the final minute of the frame, going 80 yards in six plays
- Grayson Willingham's 38-yards pass to Ryan Carter got it into Wingate territory
- McGee scored from 12 yards out to make it 14-0

SECOND QUARTER

- Wingate got on the board on its first possession of the second quarter
- Crocker hit Mobley for 44 yards to get it to the LR 30
- Crocker's 11-yard run got it inside the Lenoir-Rhyne 15
- Robertson connected on a 26-yard field goal to make it 14-3
- That would account for all of the scoring in the second frame

THIRD QUARTER

- A 29-yard run from Peoples got Wingate into LR territory midway through the quarter
- Crocker connected with Mobley for what looked to be a 35-yard TD to cut the lead to three, but it was called back due to a penalty
- Peoples followed with a 13-yard run to get it inside the LR 25
- Robertson drilled a 40-yarder to make it 14-6
- LR answered with a seven-play, 75-yard drive
- Willingham hit Deondre Lester for a 47-yard TD to make it 21-6 late in the frame

FOURTH QUARTER

- A Jon Ross Maye 50-yard pick six in the opening minutes of the fourth made it 28-6
- A 22-yard Chase Allbaugh field goal with 4:37 left capped the scoring on the night

- Wingate is back in action next Saturday, traveling to Newberry for a 1 p.m. start
- The Bulldogs host Mars Hill Nov. 13 at 3 p.m. on Senior Day
