Bulldog defense shines as Wingate downs Newberry 79-52

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs held Newberry College to 32 percent shooting from the field and 22 percent from 3-point range, rolling to a 79-52 victory in South Atlantic Conference women's basketball action in Cuddy Arena. Wingate improves to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the SAC, while Newberry falls to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in league play.

- Wingate shot 52 percent from the field; Newberry shot 32 percent
- The 'Dogs hit five-of-13 threes (39 percent); the Wolves were five-of-23 (29 percent)

- Wolves went on a 11-5 run to cut the lead to five
 
SECOND QUARTER
 
- Clark scored the first four points of the second quarter
- Wilson's layup capped a 6-0 Bulldog run to start the quarter
- Clark's 3-pointer brought the WU lead to 12 with 4:35 remaining
- Sullivan's 3-pointer with 1:52 remaining put the 'Dogs up 14
- Wingate took a 12-point advantage into the halftime locker room
 
THIRD QUARTER
 
- The Bulldogs opened the second half on a 9-1 run
- Davis scored four points in that stretch
- Brought the score to 56-35
- 'Dogs took a 60-41 lead in the final frame
 
FOURTH QUARTER
 
- Newberry jumper brought their deficit to 17 at the 9:46 mark
- 'Dogs went on a 19-8 run from that point
- Troutman and Clark recorded multiple buckets in the fourth
- A pair of AJ Davis layups capped the Wingate scoring
