Bulldogs ride dominant fourth quarter to 66-58 victory at Anderson

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs outscored Anderson University 16-6 in the fourth quarter Wednesday evening, picking up a big 66-58 victory over the Trojans in South Atlantic Conference women's basketball action. The 'Dogs improve to 9-8 overall and 8-7 in the SAC, while the Trojans fall to 11-8 overall and 10-7 in league play.

- Wingate shot 41 percent from the field; Anderson shot 38 percent

- J'mya Cutter's jumper with 1:40 to go put Anderson on top 17-13
- A Troutman bucket and two Daphney Saylor free throws tied it at 17
- Jalyn Spurlin's bucket with 28 seconds left gave the Trojans a 19-17 advantage

SECOND QUARTER

- Two Nelliah Wilson free throws gave Anderson a 24-21 lead four minutes in
- The 'Dogs scored the next eight points to take a five-point advantage
- Davis scored seven of the nine points in the flurry
- Saylor's layup at the 3:43 mark gave the Bulldogs a 33-26 lead
- A McKenzie Gadson triple with a minute to go pulled Anderson back within two
- A Davis bucket with seven seconds left gave the Bulldogs a 38-35 halftime advantage

THIRD QUARTER

- A Troutman layup and two Saylor free throws stretched the WU lead to seven at 42-35
- Gadson's layup with seven minutes left pulled the Trojans within two
- Threes from Cutter and Taylor Hair gave the Trojans a 46-44 lead at the midway point
- Spurlin's bucket with a minute left gave Anderson a six-point advantage
- A Davis layup and two Hatfield free throws pulled the 'Dogs back within two heading to the fourth

FOURTH QUARTER

- Cutter's layup gave Anderson a 54-40 lead in the early seconds of the fourth
- Back-to-back Troutman layups, followed by Coleman's jumper put WU on top 56-54
- Bailey tied it at 56 with 5:49 remaining
- Wilson put Wingate back on top with a layup, but the Trojans tied it at 58 at the 4:06 mark
- The Bulldogs held Anderson off the board the rest of the way, closing the game on an 8-0 run
- A Davis layup at the 3:26 mark started it, while Coleman made it 62-58 with a bucket 13 seconds later
- Troutman's layup with 1:57 left put the 'Dogs on top by six
- Free throws from Davis and Wilson in the final minute secured the Wingate victory
