Tucker’s last-second three gives Wingate 87-86 OT victory over Anderson

Kendrick Tucker buried a triple with one second left in overtime, giving Wingate University a thrilling 87-86 victory over visiting Anderson University in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action in Cuddy Arena. Wingate improves to 10-6 overall and 10-6 in the SAC, while the Trojans fall to 5-9 overall and 5-9 in league play. The 'Dogs finish off the season sweep over AU after prevailing 76-69 in Anderson Wednesday night.

KEY STATS

- Wingate shot 48 percent from the field; Anderson shot 44 percent
- The 'Dogs hit 14-of-26 threes (54 percent); the Trojans were nine-for-35 from deep (26 percent)

- Andreas Wilson had 17 points, hitting five-of-nine threes
- Tucker had 10 points, three assists and two rebounds

FIRST HALF

- Priest, Wilson and Sio knocked down three straight threes in a 9-0 run to give WU a 20-14 lead
- A 7-0 run from the 'Dogs was capped by another Wilson triple to make it 27-16 with 7:21 left
- Mason Carver's three-point play pulled Anderson within six at the 6:16 mark
- Wilson hit another three with five minutes left to put  the 'Dogs back on top by 11
- Jalen Hillery's jumper with 3:47 left pulled AU within six at 32-26
- Free throws from Priest and Cottingham gave Wingate a 36-28 halftime lead

SECOND HALF

- A Priest layup and Wilson three gave Wingate a 51-40 lead five minutes into the second half
- A Sio bucket two minutes later kept the advantage at 11
- Crosby James pulled Anderson within seven, but Wilson's triple pushed the lead back to 10
- A Cottingham layup put Wingate on top 64-52 at the midway point
- Anderson scored the next 10, with a James triple and Alex Keel free throw making it a two-point game
- Priest answered with a triple to make it 67-62 with seven minutes left
- A Carver triple pulled the Trojans within one with five minutes to go
- Tucker gave the Bulldogs a three-point lead with a pair of free throws at the 3:15 mark
- James made it a one-point game with a jumper with 90 seconds to go
- Sio buried a three with 17 seconds left to give the 'Dogs a four-point lead
- James answered with a three, but two Cottingham free throws made it 76-73 with six seconds left
- James knocked down a deep three at the buzzer to tie it at 76 and send it to overtime

OVERTIME

- Tucker started the scoring in overtime with a triple
- Free throws from Priest and Tucker gave Wingate an 82-76 lead with 3:13 left
- Anderson scored the next eight to take the lead
- Keel's four-point play with 2:25 remaining tied it at 82
- A Mack Burgett layup with 1:47 left gave AU its first lead since early in the first half
- Priest answered with two free throws, tying it at 84 with 37 seconds left
- Hillery put Anderson back on top with a jumper with 18 seconds remaining
- That set the stage for Tucker's heroics
- Cottingham got into the lane, but his pass to a cutting Destin Clark was deflected
- Cottingham saved it from going out and in one motion from under the basket flipped it out to Tucker
- Tucker set and buried the triple from the left wing with 1.1 seconds remaining, giving WU the one-point win

- Wingate plays its third game in four days Saturday, traveling to UVA Wise for a 4:30 p.m. start
