Wingate splits season-opening doubleheader at Barton

Wilson, N.C.----The Barton College Bulldogs rallied for a 3-1 victory over visiting Wingate University in game one of Thursday's NCAA Division II softball doubleheader, but the Bulldogs rebounded by cruising to an 8-0 five-inning victory in game two. Wingate and Barton each start the season 1-1 overall.

- Wingate committed the only error in the contest

WRAPUP

- Kale was dominant in her collegiate debut, tossing a three-hit shutout
- The freshman lefty struck out eight without walking a batter
- She needed only 71 pitches to pick up her first collegiate win
- Kale retired 11 of the last 12 batters she faced
- AnnaKate Gilchrist took the loss, falling to 0-1
- She allowed seven runs on eight hits in three innings, walking two without a strikeout
