Wilson, N.C.----The Barton College Bulldogs rallied for a 3-1 victory over visiting Wingate University in game one of Thursday's NCAA Division II softball doubleheader, but the Bulldogs rebounded by cruising to an 8-0 five-inning victory in game two. Wingate and Barton each start the season 1-1 overall.

GAME ONE | Barton 3, Wingate 1

- A pair of singles and a sacrifice bunt put runners on second and third for Barton
- The first run scored on an error, while a Sloane Correa RBI double put Barton on top 2-1
- Savannah Branch added an RBI single to put the Barton Bulldogs on top by two

SEVENTH INNING

- Wingate threatened to tie it in the top of the frame
- A walk, hit batsman and passed ball put runners on second and third for the 'Dogs
- A popout ended game one

WRAPUP

- Rilee Jones got the win, moving to 1-0
- She allowed a run on four hits in seven innings, striking out four and walking six
- Reep took the loss, falling to 0-1
- She allowed two earned runs on six hits in six innings, striking out five and walking three

- The 'Dogs had four of the six extra-base hits with three doubles and a triple
- Wingate pitching struck out eight; Barton did not register a strikeout

- Haley Cashwell went two-for-four with a triple, three RBI and two runs scored
- Alyssa Hall added two hits, a pair of RBI and a run scored

- Savanna Swickard drew a leadoff walk, then moved to second on Kale's sacrifice
- She scored on another RBI single from Hall to put WU on top 8-0

WRAPUP

- Kale was dominant in her collegiate debut, tossing a three-hit shutout
- The freshman lefty struck out eight without walking a batter
- She needed only 71 pitches to pick up her first collegiate win
- Kale retired 11 of the last 12 batters she faced
- AnnaKate Gilchrist took the loss, falling to 0-1
- She allowed seven runs on eight hits in three innings, walking two without a strikeout
