‘Dogs and Jaguars split doubleheader as Reep becomes Wingate all-time strikeout leader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Augusta, Ga.----Wingate University graduate student Aubrey Reep registered seven strikeouts Tuesday afternoon, becoming the school's all-time leader with 543 career strikeouts as the Bulldogs and Jaguars split an NCAA Division II softball doubleheader. A Heaven Maness eighth-inning homer gave the 'Dogs a 2-0 extra-inning win in game one, while the Jaguars responded with a 4-1 victory in game two. Wingate moves to 2-2 overall, while Augusta goes to 2-4 on the season.

- The 'Dogs had the only two extra-base hits in the contest and the lone homer

- Reep struck out the side in the first inning, then struck out two more in the second to tie the record
- Her strikeout to start the third inning gave her the new school record with 542 strikeouts

FIFTH INNING

- Two singles and a hit batsman loaded the bases for Augusta with one out
- Kale got out of it without any damage thanks to a strikeout and groundout

EIGHTH INNING

- Hogan was placed on second to start the frame
- A strikeout and popout started the inning, leaving Hogan on second
- The freshman Maness stepped to the plate and connected on her first collegiate homer
- Her two-run shot gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead heading to the bottom of the eighth
- Kale set the Jaguars down in order with two flyouts and a strikeout

WRAPUP

- Kale got the win to move to 2-0 on the season
- The freshman tossed 3 2/3 no-hit innings, striking out four and walking one
- She started her WU career with a three-hit shutout last Thursday with eight strikeouts
- Mary Tillman took the loss
- She allowed two runs on four hits in eight innings, striking out five without walking a batter

- Augusta out-hit Wingate 7-4 in the second game
- Each team had two extra-base hits
- The Jaguars committed the only two errors in the game
- The 'Dogs left nine on base; Augusta stranded three

KEY BULLDOGS

- Gracyn Polk went one-for-three with an RBI
- Maness added a double and a run scored
- Raelynn Kramer also collected a double for the Bulldogs

FIRST INNING

- Augusta jumped out to a 1-0 lead on an Aminah Wood RBI double

FIFTH INNING

- Maness started the fifth with a double
- She scored on an RBI single from Polk to tie the game
- A double and walk loaded the bases with one out for the 'Dogs
- A popout and flyout ended the threat
- Two singles in the bottom of the frame were followed by a Lauren Slade RBI double to put AU on top
- Madelyn Libby followed with a two-run single to make it 4-1

WRAPUP
- Chloe Wilson got the win, allowing a run on four hits while striking out nine and walking three
- Danielle Kirchhofer took the loss, falling to 0-1
- She allowed four runs on the day
- Kale came in and notched the third scoreless outing of her WU career

UP NEXT

- Wingate is at home Saturday, hosting a doubleheader against UNC Pembroke at 1 p.m.
- The 'Dogs then hit the road for 10 straight, starting next weekend at North Georgia
- WU will face #17 Southern Indiana, #2 North Georgia and #6 Young Harris in a three-day stretch
