Five Bulldogs named All-SAC; Hobgood earns first team accolades

Rock Hill, S.C.----The South Atlantic Conference announced the regular season softball award winners Thursday afternoon, with the Wingate University Bulldogs earning five all-conference selections. Kaylee Hobgood is a first team All-SAC honoree, with Lily Huneycutt picking up second team accolades. In addition, Addy Higginbotham, Damyia McFadden and Jillian Thomas earned third team recognition.

Hobgood hit .400 on the year, piling up 45 hits including two doubles, two triples and two homers, driving in 18 runs and scoring 26 times. She also stole 10 bases in 11 attempts while posting a .447 on-base percentage. Hobgood ranks first in WU history in all-time hits, while ranking second in runs scored.

Huneycutt got it done at the plate and in the circle for the Bulldogs, hitting .324 with eight homers, five doubles and 29 RBI, scoring 27 times, posting a .604 slugging percentage. She led the 'Dogs in homers, RBI and slugging percentage.  Huneycutt went 12-8 as a pitcher with a 3.42 ERA, striking out 90 in 116 2/3 innings of work. She led the team in wins, innings pitched and strikeouts.

Higginbotham earns all-conference accolades in her first season with the Bulldogs. The freshman hit .369 with 48 hits including a double, triple and homer. She drove in 12 runs and scored 30 times on the year, while also stealing four bases in five attempts. Higginbothm led the 'Dogs in runs scored while ranking third on the team in hits.

McFadden started all 47 games for the Bulldogs, hitting .333 with 49 hits including seven doubles, a triple and a homer. She drove in 13 runs and scored 26 times, adding eight stolen bases. McFadden finished second on the team in hits, runs scored and stolen bases.

Thomas posted an 8-6 record on the season with a 2.72 ERA. She tossed three complete games on the year, while also notching a save. Thomas piled up 89 strikeouts on the season.
