‘Dogs take two from Coker to push home winning streak to 14

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs registered their second doubleheader sweep in as many days Wednesday afternoon, taking two against Coker University in South Atlantic Conference softball action. Wingate won the opener 4-2, while rolling to a 9-1 five-inning victory in game two. The 'Dogs have now won 14 straight at home, moving to 12-10 overall and 5-3 in the SAC. The Cobras fall to 8-10 overall and 3-7 in league play.

- Aubrey Reep was two-for-three with a homer and three RBI to lead the offense

- Cashwell led off the inning with a bunt single
- A wild throw on the throw allowed her to circle the bases and get Wingate on the board
- Maness followed with a single, then stole second
- She scored on a Reep RBI single to make it 2-0

THIRD INNING

- Maness got it started with a one-out single
- Reep followed with a two-run shot down the left field line to give WU a four-run lead

SIXTH INNING

- A solo homer from Kayla Oswell in the top of the sixth pulled Coker within two

WRAPUP

- Reep got the win, moving to 3-2
- She allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings, striking out nine without a walk
- Hannah Fisher took the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits in six innings

- Maness followed by lining a two-run double to left center to give WU a five-run lead

FIFTH INNING

- Coker got on the board in the top of the frame on an RBI double from Ava Jay
- Wingate answered with four in the bottom of the frame to end the game
- Reeves started the scoring with her first career homer, a solo shot to center
- Liles ripped a two-run double down the left field line to make it 8-1
- Stroud followed with an RBI single up the middle, plating Liles to end it

WRAPUP

- Cutcher got the win, moving to 2-2
- She allowed a run on two hits in five innings, striking out four without walking a batter
- Brandi Davis took the loss, allowing seven runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings, walking three

- Wingate is back in action Saturday, hosting a doubleheader against Carson-Newman at noon
