‘Dogs blast six homers in doubleheader sweep over Carson-Newman

Wingate, N.C.----McCann Mellett blasted three of Wingate's six homers Friday afternoon, leading the Bulldogs to a doubleheader sweep over visiting Carson-Newman University in South Atlantic Conference baseball action at Ron Christopher Stadium and Plyler Athletic Field. Wingate won both games 12-7, improving to 16-7 overall and 12-6 in the SAC. The Eagles fall to 15-7 overall and 10-4 in league play.

- Wingate out-hit Carson-Newman 10-7 in game one
- The Bulldogs had seven of the of the 13 extra-base hits and five of the nine homers
- The 'Dogs left six on base; the Eagles stranded just one

- A Gunnar Ricketts two-run homer pulled the Eagles within three
- Wingate answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame
- Mellett's second homer of the day was a solo shot to right center
- Bryant followed with a solo shot to right center to make it 12-5

WRAPUP

- Nash got the win, moving to 4-3
- He allowed seven runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings, striking out four
- Johnson got the save, tossing 1 2/3 shutout innings without allowing a hit
- Jake Wright took the loss, allowing six runs on five hits in an inning
