Bulldogs roll to dominant 33-6 victory over Catawba

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs outgained visiting Catawba College by over 330 yards Saturday night, cruising to a 33-6 victory in South Atlantic Conference football action at Irwin Belk Stadium. Wingate moves to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the SAC, while the Indians fall to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in league play.

KEY STATS

- The 'Dogs outgained the Indians 458-126 on the night
- Wingate had 249 passing yards and 209 rushing yards
- Catawba had 111 passing yards and just 15 rushing yards
- The Bulldogs piled up 24 of the 34 first downs on the night
- Wingate averaged 5.8 yards per play while Catawba went for just 2.3 yards per play
- The 'Dogs had the ball for over 37 minutes, winning the possession battle by 15 minutes
- The Bulldogs were nine-for-16 on third down; the Indians were one-for-12

FIRST QUARTER

- The only points came from a Wingate safety
- Davon Gilmore's pressure on the play forced an intentional grounding in the end zone
- Wingate took a 2-0 lead into the second quarter

SECOND QUARTER

- The 'Dogs used a seven-play, 55-yard drive to get into the end zone
- Crocker hit Myles Dillon for 25 yards; Wilson followed with a 12-yard run
- Crocker hit Martin to get to the Catawba five; Henderson punched it in on the next play
- Robertson capped a 39-yard drive with a 40-yard field goal to make it 12-0
- Morrison set up the drive with an interception at the Wingate 25
- The 'Dogs went 41 yards on seven plays the next drive after a Burks interception
- Crocker had a six-yard run to convert a fourth and four
- He then hit Martin for 26 yards to get it to the Catawba three yard line
- Lewis scored on a three-yard TD run to put WU on top by 19

THIRD QUARTER

- Swaim's 18-yard punt return set the 'Dogs up on the Catawba 41
- Crocker connected with Lewis two plays later for a 32-yard TD to make it 26-0

FOURTH QUARTER

- Wingate's final scoring drive was a 10-play, 61-yard effort
- Henderson had runs of 12 and nine yards to get inside the Catawba 20
- Henderson scored from 18 yards out on fourth and one to make it 33-0
- Catawba finally got on the board with 7:28 remaining
- Ken Avent hit Kujuan Pryor for a 19-yard touchdown to make the final margin 33-6
