‘Dogs plate 21 runs in DH sweep over LMU as Gregory picks up 300th career victory

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs swept a doubleheader over visiting Lincoln Memorial University Sunday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference baseball action at Ron Christopher Stadium and Plyler Athletic Field. Wingate jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the opener en route to an 11-7 victory, while erasing a 6-0 deficit in game two with an eight-run eighth inning to prevail 10-6 and take three out of four in the series. Wingate improves to 9-5 overall and 7-5 in the SAC, while head coach Jeff Gregory picked up career win number 300 with the game one victory. LMU falls to 6-10 overall and 5-7 in league play.

- The 'Dogs had four of the six extra-base hits; each team had a homer
- The Railsplitters committed the only two errors in the contest

- Bryant's two-run double put the Bulldogs on top by six
- Dansky followed with his second homer in as many days, a three-run blast to right center to make it 9-0

FOURTH INNING

- RBI singles from Brandon Parrott and DJ Alexander highlighted a three-run fourth for LMU
- Wingate answered with two more in the bottom of the frame
- Simpson started the frame with a single, then scored on an RBI walk from Adams
- Carraway drew another bases-loaded walk to make it 11-2

FIFTH INNING

- A two-run homer from Tyler Adams in the top of the fifth made it 11-5

SEVENTH INNING

- An RBI single from Zach Frits capped the scoring on the day, making the final margin 11-7

WRAPUP

- Dula got the win, moving to 1-1
- He allowed five runs on five hits in five innings, striking out four
- Mitchell got the save, allowing a run on three hits in 1 2/3 innings with a strikeout
- Kevin Norton took the loss, allowing seven runs on four hits in two innings, walking five

- He scored on a Bryant sacrifice fly to make it a five-run game

SIXTH INNING

- Dula and McNeely drew walks to start the inning, then stole second and third
- Dula scored on McKay's RBI single to make it a 6-2 game

EIGHTH INNING

- Dula drew a leadoff walk, then stole second
- He scored on an error, while a walk and another error loaded the bases
- A Simpson sacrifice fly pulled the Bulldogs to within two
- Bryant came to the plate with the bases loaded in a 6-4 game
- The senior ripped a 2-2 pitch just inside the third base bag, plating three runs to make it 7-6
- Mellett followed with an RBI single to right to give Wingate a two-run cushion
- Dula capped the eight-run frame with a towering two-run blast to right to make it 10-6

WRAPUP

- McCullough got the win, moving to 2-1
- He tossed five shutout innings, allowing four hits while striking out six
- McCullough threw 83 pitches after throwing 34 pitches Saturday night
- In two games in the series he went 2-0 without allowing a run in 7 1/3 innings, striking out 11
- Mitch Farris added 3 2/3 innings without allowing an earned run, striking out three
- Andrew Keene took the loss, allowing five runs on four hits in one inning
