Bulldogs and Bears split Friday doubleheader

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs used a four-run first inning to pick up a 6-3 victory in game one of a South Atlantic Conference baseball doubleheader at Lenoir-Rhyne University Friday afternoon. The Bears responded with a 14-3 victory in game two. Wingate moves to 20-8 overall and 15-7 in the SAC, while the Bears go to 17-11 overall and 14-8 in league play.

- Lenoir-Rhyne out-hit Wingate 9-5
- The Bears had two of the three extra-base hit; each team had a homer
- LR left seven on base; the Bulldogs stranded three

- A Wingate error in the bottom of the frame allowed the Bears to pull within three
- Brody McCullough entered the game to record the final out and preserve the win

WRAPUP

- Nash got the win, moving to 5-3
- He allowed two earned runs and nine hits in 6 2/3 innings, striking out four
- McCullough retired the only batter he faced to notch his third save of the year
- Alex Shizari took the loss, allowing five runs on four hits in five innings, striking out four and walking three
