Kodak, Tenn.----The fourth-seeded Wingate University Bulldogs used a five-run sixth inning to blow things open Friday night, rolling to a 10-2 victory over third-seeded Newberry College in the opener of the 2021 South Atlantic Conference baseball tournament. Wingate improves to 27-11 overall, while the Wolves fall to 22-14 on the season. The 'Dogs have now scored 70 runs in their last five games.

- Bryant started the scoring by leading off the second with a towering solo shot to left
- Christopher followed with a single, then scored when Mellett drew a bases-loaded walk
- A Zane Tarrance RBI groundout and Dalton Landsdowne RBI single in the bottom of the frame tied it at two
FIFTH INNING
- The Bulldogs regained the lead in the top of the fifth
- Guy reached on a leadoff single, then went to second when Mellett drew a walk
- They both moved up on a Dansky sacrifice bunt
- McNeely's sacrifice fly plated Guy to put Wingate back on top
- Bryant followed with a two-out RBI single to plate Mellett and make it 4-2
SIXTH INNING
- The 'Dogs scored five times in the sixth to take a 9-2 lead
- A walk and McKay single started the inning
- Simpson's RBI single drove home the first run of the frame
- Guy followed with a perfect RBI bunt single to make it 6-2
- Dansky was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to push the lead to five
- McNeely followed with another sacrifice fly to plate Guy
- Bryant capped the scoring in the frame with an RBI single to put WU on top by seven
EIGHTH INNING
- Dansky lined a two-out single to right, then went to second on a wild pitch
- He scored on McNeely's RBI single to make the final margin 10-2

- Dula got the win, moving to 6-1 on the year
- He allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings, striking out 10 and walking two
