#6 Wingate hands #4 Lenoir-Rhyne first loss of the season

Hickory, N.C.----For the second time this season, the sixth-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs went on the road and picked up a victory over a top-five team, taking down the fourth-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne University Bears 16-15 in South Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse action Wednesday night. Wingate improves to 10-1 overall and 8-1 in the SAC, while the Bears fall to 9-1 overall and 7-1 in league play.

FIRST PERIOD

- LR struck in the opening minute, but Ehinger won the ensuing face-off and got WU on the board
- Goals from Grieco and Padden put the 'Dogs on top 3-2 with 9:18 left
- LR's Will Canata tied it at three with a goal at the 7:16 mark
- The Bulldogs scored the final three goals of the frame
- Padden scored all three, starting at the 6:54 mark, while his goal with 3:29 left made it 6-3

SECOND PERIOD

- Goals from Fleming and Padden pushed the lead to four at 8-4 less than three minutes in
- Vodovnik's goal with 9:50 left gave the 'Dogs a 9-5 advantage
- Eric Dickinson pulled LR within four, but a Padden goal with four minutes left gave WU a 10-6 lead

THIRD PERIOD

- Grieco scored the first goal of the second half to put the Bulldogs on top by five
- Dickinson scored twice to pull the Bears within three at 12-9 with 6:47 to go
- Vodovnik answered off a Grieco assist to push the lead back to four
- Tommy Aguilar cut the deficit back to three with four minutes left, but the 'Dogs had the answer
- Wingate scored three times in the final 2:38 to take a six-goal lead into the final frame
- Stenstrom started the spurt, while Riley and Grieco scored in the final 63 seconds to make it 16-10

FOURTH PERIOD

- Myles Moffat scored the first goal of the period midway through the fourth to make it 16-11
- The Bears scored four times in less than two minutes to pull within one
- Kyle Hatcher's goal with 1:22 left made it a 16-15 game
- LR got a shot in the final seconds, but Carlson was there for the save to preserve the win
