Lenoir-Rhyne rallies for 3-2 victory over Wingate

Hickory, N.C.----The Lenoir-Rhyne University Bears won the final two sets Tuesday night, rallying for a 3-2 victory over visiting Wingate University in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action. The Bears won by scores of 16-25, 25-21, 5-25, 25-6 and 15-12 to improve to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the SAC. The Bulldogs fall to 5-2 overall and 1-2 in league play.

- WU had 52 kills and 24 errors in 163 attacks; LR had 41 kills and 22 errors in 152 attacks

FIRST SET

- A Lambillotte kill and Schaff block gave Wingate an early 6-2 lead
- A kill and an ace from Lambillotte, along with kills from Schaff and Kasprak made it 10-4
- An Alannah Thomas kill pulled LR to within three at 14-11
- WU scored the next five, getting two Sutphin kills to take a 19-11 advantage
- Back-to-back Schaff blocks made it 24-15; a Lorna Stacherski kill ended the set

SECOND SET

- A Parkley Hennings ace gave the Bears a 9-4 advantage
- A Mullen ace and Sutphin kill trimmed the lead to three at 12-9
- Two Lambillotte kills and Young ace made it 14-12
- A Colette Romp kill put Lenoir-Rhyne on top 17-14, but a Schaff block and Pryce ace made it 17-16
- A Thomas block pushed the lead back to three, but a Young block made it 19-18
- LR scored the next three, taking a 22-18 lead on a Braelyn Faust ace
- A Sutphin kill pulled WU within two at 23-21, but kills from Thomas and Hulsey ended the frame

THIRD SET

- Wingate scored the first 12 points of the third set, getting three Sutphin kill, two Lambillotte kills and two Young aces
- Two kills and a block from Schaff made it 16-1
- Two Katie Jamerson aces and a Schaff block put the 'Dogs on top 21-2
- Kills from Stacherski and Emma Ahrens made it 24-4; Stacherski and Young ended it with a block

FOURTH SET

- LR jumped out to a 17-2 lead on a Taylor Prall kill
- Kills from Schaff and Blackley made it 18-5, but the Bears scored the next six
- A Wingate service error ended the frame

FIFTH SET

- Three straight Wingate errors gave the Bears a 7-2 lead in set five
- A Prall kill made it 8-3, but a Pryce ace and Stacherski kill made it 8-6
- Two more WU errors, along with a Prall kill gave Lenoir-Rhyne an 11-6 advantage
- The 'Dogs scored four straight, getting two blocks from Lambillotte and Young to make it 12-11
- A Thomas block was answered by a Lambillotte kill to make it 13-12
- An Emma Clark kill made it 14-12; Prall ended the match with a kill
