‘Dogs close out regular season with 20th sweep of the year

Wingate, N.C.----For the 16th time in 17 seasons, the Wingate University Bulldogs have wrapped up the regular season with the best record in league play. The Bulldogs notched their 20th sweep of the season Friday night, downing Catawba 25-22, 25-13, 25-23 in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action to improve to 26-2 overall and 17-1 in the SAC, while the Indians fall to 7-17 overall and 5-12 in league play.

KEY STATS

- Wingate had 31 kills and 12 errors to hit .196 on the match
- Catawba had 27 kills and 23 errors, hitting .035
- The Bulldogs had 15 of the 23 aces on the night
- Wingate held a 13-2 advantage in blocks
- The 'Dogs had a 49-47 edge in digs in the match

KEY BULLDOGS

- Gabby Saye had seven kills and eight blocks to lead the WU attack
- Emily Johnson hit .364 with five kills and three blocks
- Victoria Wilform also contributed five kills on the night
- Molly Lambillotte had four kills, five aces and four digs
- Maggie Young piled up four kills and nine blocks
- Shannon Kasprak had 24 assists, 18 digs, four kills, two blocks and an ace

- Kills from Kasprak and Wilform gave Wingate an 8-4 lead
- A Hayes Smith kill tied it at 12
- A Saye kill put the 'Dogs on top 14-12
- Kelcie Love's kill tied it at 16 for the Indians
- Kills from Lambillotte and Young put the Bulldogs on top 20-18
- A kill and two blocks from Saye gave Wingate a 23-19 advantage
- A Catawba error made it 24-20; another Indian error ended the frame

SECOND SET

- A Wilform kill and three straight Pryce aces gave Wingate a 10-5 lead
- Kills from Kasprak and Young made it 15-8
- Two aces and a kill from Lambillotte, along with two Young blocks made it 20-9
- Kills from Kasprak and Emma Ahrens put WU on top 24-13; A Rayah Givens block ended it

THIRD SET

- A Kasprak kill and three Pryce aces highlighted a 5-0 run that gave WU an 11-7 lead
- A kill and a block from Johnson gave the 'Dogs a 15-8 advantage
- Two Young blocks and a Kasprak kill made it 19-11
- A Lauren Bodell ace pulled Catawba within two at 22-20
- A Johnson kill and Pryce ace made it 24-20; a Catawba error ended the match
