Allendale, Mich.----For the second year in a row, Wingate University graduate student Darius 'Dash' Weathers won the men's triple jump in the Grand Valley State University Holiday Open on the Kelly Family Sports Center turf Friday. The GVSU Holiday Open is the first 2022-23 indoor meet for the South Atlantic Conference member Bulldogs.

"Competing in Michigan at GVSU was all about gaining experience in a competitive environment. Thirty-three Bulldogs traveled to the icy tundra and are coming home with personal bests, school records, NCAA provisional standards and top marks on the SAC performance lists. Everyone is a bit exhausted from the long trip, and the bombardment of positivity, but the coaching staff couldn't be more excited about what's ahead for the indoor season."
 
Men's Notes
 
Weathers posted an NCAA Division II provisional mark of 14.86 meters on his way to victory in the 15-person field. His leap is the third-best mark in D2 this season. Last year, Weathers won the GVSU Holiday Open men's triple jump with a mark of 14.54 meters.
 
Bulldog juniors Jakob Rettschlag (4:09.52) and Leo Freeland (4:11.07) ran the top two SAC and Southeast Region times in the mile run this season. Rettschlag's time is a D2 provisional mark and a new school record. Grand Valley State sophomore Scott Spaanstra won the Holiday Open mile run with his triumphant time of 4:08.89.
 
Three members of Wingate's 2022 NCAA Division II runner-up men's cross country team recorded provisional times in the 5000 meters. Cas Kopmels led the way with a 14:07.29, followed by Pierre Galbourdin (14:10.55) and Scott Nutter (14:18.71). Both Kopmels and Galbourdin broke the previous school record for the indoor 5000 meters.
 
Kopmels' GVSU Holiday Open mark is No. 7 on the D2 charts, thanks to his personal-best time. Galbourdin and Nutter joined Kopmels by posting personal-best times. Galbourdin and Nutter are No. 9 and No. 11, respectively, on the D2 indoor 5000 meters' list.
 
Women's Notes

Wingate junior Mollie Scott ran a PR in the 5000 meters with her time of 17:06.12. Scott's D2 provisional time is the top mark in the SAC and the Southeast Region this season. She is No. 10 on the NCAA Division II indoor listing for the 5000 meters. Senior teammate Tatjana Mense posted a 5000 meters time of 17:24.73.
 
Bulldog senior Zoe Brickley ran a 10:06.69 PR in the 3000 meters. She ran a 10:27.42 in the 2021 GVSU Holiday Open 3000 meters. Graduate student Abby Heath recorded a 58.29 time in the 400 meter dash, good enough for the third-best time in the SAC this season. Heath posted a 9.99 time in the 60 meter hurdles, one of four Bulldogs to break the 10-second barrier Friday.
