’Dogs down Lynn and #8 Saint Anselm on final day of Florida Tech Invitational

Cocoa Beach, Fla.----The Wingate University Bulldogs wrapped up their Florida trip with a pair of victories Sunday afternoon, taking down Lynn 3-1 before picking up a 6-2 victory over eighth-ranked Saint Anselm in NCAA Division II softball action. Wingate finishes the weekend 3-2, while moving to 7-2 on the season.

WINGATE 3 LYNN 1

KEY STATS


- Wingate out-hit the Fighting Knights 6-5
- Lynn had the lone extra-base hit and lone homer
- The Fighting Knights committed the only three errors of the contest
- Wingate left five on base; Lynn stranded three
- WU pitching struck out seven and walked one; Lynn had a strikeout and two walks
- Wingate had the lone stolen base; the Fighting Knights were caught stealing in their only attempt

KEY BULLDOGS

- Heaven Maness went one-for-three with an RBI and run scored
- Danielle Kirchhofer added a hit and an RBI

- Savannah Lampley also had a hit and run scored
- Sydney Kale allowed just two hits in five innings of work

- A solo shot from Janelle Dominguez gave Lynn an early 1-0 lead

- Lampley led things off with a single, then went to second on a Katy Kahlich sacrifice
- Kirchhofer tied it with an RBI single

FOURTH INNING

- Liles got things started with a one-out single
- Maness followed with an RBI single to give Wingate a 2-1 lead
- She then stole second and went to third on an error
- Maness scored when Kahlich reached on an error, giving the 'Dogs a two-run cushion

WRAPUP

- Kale got the win, moving to 3-1
- She allowed a run on just two hits in five innings, striking out six and walking one
- Cutcher worked the final two innings for the save without allowing a run, striking out one
- Faith Miller took the loss, allowing three runs on four hits in 3 1/3 innings

- A two-run homer from Bailey Cain tied it in the top of the frame
- A Liles one-out single got things started in the bottom of the inning
- Maness followed with a two-run shot to left to put WU back on top by two

FIFTH INNING

- Lampley started the inning with a single, then went to second on a Kirchhofer sacrifice
- Kale's RBI single plated Lampley to make it 5-2
- A wild pitch allowed pinch-runner Alyssa Hall to score to give the 'Dogs a four-run lead

WRAPUP

- Cutcher moves to 3-0 on the year, picking up the win in relief
- She allowed a hit in 3 2/3 shutout frames, striking out one without a walk
- Haile Hicks took the loss, allowing six runs on six hits in five innings

UP NEXT

- Wingate is back in action next weekend, traveling to Columbus, Ga. for four games
- Wingate plays Georgia College and Columbus State on Saturday and again on Sunday
