Wingate suffers first setback of season at Erskine

Due West, S.C.----The top-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs had their 16-game winning streak come to an end Tuesday afternoon, falling 6-2 at Erskine College in NCAA Division II baseball action. The Bulldogs fall to 11-1 overall, while the Flying Fleet go to 8-4 on the season. The 11-0 start was the best ever by a defending national champion.

- The Flying Fleet had the only two extra-base hits of the game

- The Bulldogs left 12 on base; Erskine stranded four

- Andrew McKay went three-for-four with an RBI and a run scored

- A sacrifice fly from Kyle Martin in the bottom of the frame put Erskine back on top

- Clark struck out, but reached first on an error, then went to second on a Jed Bryant single
- McKay's RBI single plated Clark to make it 2-2

SIXTH INNING

- An RBI single from Carlos Rivera put the Flying Fleet back on top
- Ashby Smith's two-run single made it 5-2

SEVENTH INNING

- A Rivera RBI single gave Erskine a four-run lead

WRAPUP

- Zach Overholt got the win, moving to 1-0
- He went 1 2/3 innings without allowing a run, striking out two
- Mitch Farris took the loss, allowing three runs on two hits in 1 1/3 innings
