Wingate distance crew celebrates record-setting day at Camel City Invitational

Winston-Salem, N.C.----The Wingate University indoor track and field teams celebrated a big day from their distance specialists on the second day of the Camel City Invitational at the JDL Fast Track Saturday. Jakob Rettschlag and Meg Rapley led the way, setting new school records in the men's and women's mile run, respectively.
 
Overall, the Bulldogs had 23 top-20 performances during the Camel City Invitational Saturday. Fifteen of those Saturday showings belonged to the WU distance crew. For the meet, Wingate recorded 33 top-20 finishes.
 
Men's notes
- Rettschlag was sixth in the mile, thanks to his school-record time of 4:10.55
- He was the top NCAA Division II finisher in a star-studded mile field
- Bastian Mrochen finished fifth in the 3000 meters (8:17.64)
- Mrochen led seven Bulldogs in the 3000 meters' top 20
- Tom Kalliske took eighth place in the shot put (14.48 meters)
- Jayden Johnson finished fifth in the triple jump (12.75 meters)
- Dennis Trukawka slipped into the triple jump top 10 with his 10th place leap (12.02 meters)
 
Women's notes
- Rapley finished seventh in the mile with her school-record time of 4:59.73
- Anna Torras was right behind Rapley, taking eighth-place in the mile (5:01.48)
- Danielle Crawford finished fifth in the shot put (13.30 meters)
- Carly Platt (10th, 12.20 meters) and Victoria McEachern (17th, 11.18) also landed in the shot put top 20
- Ennessey Sorrells and Valerie Daehler finished 10th (10.85 meters) and 12th (10.71), respectively, in the triple jump
- Gemma Rebollo and Mollie Scott were 12th (9:53.65) and 13th (9:54.37), respectively, in the 3000 meters

Wingate University
 
Founded in 1896, Wingate University is a laboratory of difference-making that serves more than 3,400 students in North Carolina.
