Four score in double figures as #22 Wingate downs Limestone on the road

Gaffney, S.C.—-The 22nd-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs had four players score in double figures Wednesday evening en route to a 69-62 road victory over Limestone University in South Atlantic Conference women's basketball action. The Bulldogs improve to 21-2 on the season and 19-1 in the conference, while Limestone falls to 12-8 overall and 9-8 in league play.
 
KEY STATS
 
- Wingate shot 47 percent from the floor; Limestone made 42 percent of its shot attempts
- The Bulldogs were 10-for-20 (50 percent) from beyond the arc, while the Saints shot seven-of-25 (28 percent) from deep
- LU was five-of-six (83 percent) from the free throw line; WU hit 15 of its 22 (68 percent) attempts from the charity stripe
- The 'Dogs held a massive 46-15 advantage on the glass

FIRST QUARTER
 
- Limestone scored the first two baskets of the game
- Clark got the Bulldogs on the board with a triple two minutes in
- Brandon's jumper with less than five minutes to go capped an 8-0 WU run
- Clark had three triples in the quarter as the 'Dogs held a three-point advantage after 10 minutes
 
SECOND QUARTER
 
- A layup from Reagan Kargo cut the Wingate lead to a single point
- Troutman's jumper capped a quick five unanswered points for the Bulldogs as they took a 24-17 lead with 7:18 remaining in the half
- Limestone responded with the next two baskets
- WU answered right back with a 10-3 run to take a 10-point lead after a Peyton Davis layup
- After a Sullivan three-pointer gave the 'Dogs their largest lead of the game at 11, the Saints scored the next six points to cut the lead to five
- Wilson's free throw gave Wingate its 38-32 halftime lead
 
THIRD QUARTER
 
- Troutman started the second half on a 4-0 personal run to return the Bulldog lead to double digits
- WU extended that run to 9-2 behind after a Clark layup gave the 'Dogs a 47-34 advantage midway through the quarter
- The Saints answered with seven of the next 10 points
- Sullivan's three-pointer was the only Wingate basket scored in that three-minute stretch
- Byrd's pair of free throws cut the Bulldog lead to nine heading into the final period
 
FOURTH QUARTER
 
- LU scored the first five points of the fourth quarter
- Kargo's free throws brought the Saints within four
- After a Dyson free throw, Byrd knocked down a triple to make the score 53-51
- Later in the quarter, another Byrd three-pointer gave the Saints the lead with 5:20 remaining
- It capped a 22-7 run for Limestone dating back to the third quarter
- The Bulldogs responded with a 7-0 run of their own behind pairs of free throws from Troutman and Wilson surrounding a Wilson three-pointer that broke a tie at 56
- Vonshayla Webb's layup cut the WU lead back to three points, but a Troutman layup and Clark free throws gave the 'Dogs a seven-point cushion 1:28 remaining
- A quick 5-0 flurry from Limestone made it a one-possession game once again with 29 seconds to go
- Fouled with 25 seconds to go, Wilson knocked down both free throws
- Brandon's steal and Wilson's layup on the ensuing possession sealed Wingate's 21st victory of the season
