Bulldogs and Railsplitters split Monday doubleheader

Harrogate, Tenn.----The second-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs had four pitchers combined to go 16 innings without allowing an earned run Monday afternoon, as Wingate and Lincoln Memorial University split a doubleheader in South Atlantic Conference baseball action. Wingate won the opener 5-2, while the Railsplitters prevailed 1-0 in game two. The 'Dogs move to 20-3 overall and 7-1 in the SAC, while the Railsplitters go to 12-9 overall and 3-2 in league play.

KEY STATS


- Wingate out-hit LMU 9-6
- Each team had one extra-base hit
- The Bulldogs left eight on base; the Railsplitters stranded seven
- The 'Dogs had two of the three errors in game one

- LMU got on the board via a Bulldog error in the bottom of the sixth inning

SEVENTH INNING

- Guy singled to start the seventh, then moved to second on a Kell Smith sacrifice
- He went to third on a wild pitch, then scored on when Dansky reached on an error to make it 4-1

NINTH INNING

- Williams-Rhem started the frame with a single, then went to second on Guy's single
- Dansky's RBI groundout made it a 5-1 game

WRAPUP

- Mitchell got the win, moving to 6-0 on the year
- He allowed an unearned run on four hits in 5 1/3 innings, striking out four and walking four
- Broderson allowed an unearned run on three hits in 3 2/3 innings, with nine of his 11 outs coming via strikeout
- Patrick Queener took the loss, allowing three runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings, striking out nine
