#25 Wingate rides 10-goal second quarter to 20-11 victory at UVA Wise

Wise, Va.----The 25th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs poured in 10 goals in the second quarter Friday afternoon, rolling to a 20-11 victory at UVA Wise in South Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse action. Wingate improves to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in the SAC, winning in its first game as a ranked team in program history. UVA Wise drops to 3-5 overall and 0-2 in league play.

FIRST PERIOD

­- UVA Wise got off to a fast start, scoring three of the first four goals of the game within five minutes
- Watson's score from a free position got Wingate on the board at the 13:32 mark
- Kamer scored twice in the next two minutes separated by another Cavaliers' goal as the hosts kept a small lead
- UVA Wise scored the final two goals of the period, taking a 6-3 advantage after 15 minutes

SECOND PERIOD

- The Bulldogs made up ground to start the second period, scoring seven unanswered goals in the first 10+ minutes of the second period
- Two goals from Knowles in the first three minutes bookended Kamer's third score of the first 20 minutes, tying the game at six at the 12:03 mark
- Wilgeroth went on a personal 3-0 run over the next four minutes, giving the 'Dogs a 9-6 lead
- Watson capped the Wingate streak with a goal off a Knowles assist
- Wise's only score of the period came at the 3:45 mark
- The 'Dogs responded with the final three goals of the half, one each from Kamer, Bella Pellet and Knowles, as WU took a 13-7 lead into the break

THIRD PERIOD

- UVA Wise was the first to score in the second half, cutting the deficit to five
- Knowles scored the next two before Kamer added yet another goal, as the Bulldogs took a commanding 16-8 lead
- The two sides traded scores over the last five minutes of the third period; the 'Dogs' lead after quarters stood at 17-9

FOURTH PERIOD

- The Cavaliers opened the fourth-quarter scoring with a Mallory Trimble goal to get into double figures
- Ruiz and Kamer each answered with a score to give the Bulldogs their largest lead of the afternoon
- Wingate slowed the pace over the final seven and a half minutes, as each side only tallied one more score
- Danielle Scarfogliero's goal with 1:23 remaining brought the 'Dogs over the 20-goal mark for the third time this season
