Wingate, N.C.----Wingate University freshman Hali Scott hit a home run and earned the win in the circle in each of the Bulldogs' wins on Tuesday afternoon over UVA Wise in South Atlantic Conference softball action at the WU Softball Complex. Wingate improves to 21-8 overall and 4-0 in SAC play, while the Cavaliers fall to 9-5 and 1-3 in league action.

GAME ONE | Wingate 10, UVA Wise 3

KEY STATS

- Wingate out-hit UVA Wise 12-5
- The Bulldogs had four of the five extra-base hits in game one; WU had two of the three homers
- Each team committed two errors
- The Cavaliers left five runners on the bases; WU stranded six
- The 'Dogs pitching staff struck out 12 and walked one, while UVAW's hurlers struck out three, walked two and hit two

KEY BULLDOGS

- Scott earned the win, throwing three hitless innings in relief, striking out seven
- The freshman also hit the three-run blast in the fifth to extend the 'Dogs' lead
- Sara Stroud went three-for-four with a homer and three runs scored
- Hannah Stevens had two hits, one of which was a double, driving in two runs
- Heaven Maness was two-for-three with a double, an RBI and two runs scored

FIRST INNING

- Maness stole second after singling up the middle
- Savanna Brooks drove her in on a comebacker up the middle, giving the 'Dogs an early 1-0 lead

THIRD INNING

- Wise's Kara Long drove in a run on a single to center field
- Stroud hit a leadoff double and advanced to third on an error in the outfield
- Maness drove her in on a sac fly to center field to reclaim the lead

FOURTH INNING

- Alexis Miles tied the game once again with a blast to left center

FIFTH INNING

- The Cavaliers got the first two batters of the inning on base before performing a double steals to get runners on second and third
- Jenna McDermott later scored in the inning on a wild pitch
- The 'Dogs exploded for six runs in the bottom half, all with two outs in the inning
- Stroud tied the game at 3 with a solo shot to center field
- Maness doubled to right field before scoring on a Hannah Reeves RBI single
- Scott's three-run home run quadrupled the Wingate lead to 7-3
- The 'Dogs weren't done there as Stevens doubled to center before Ragan Liles drove her in

SIXTH INNING

- Stevens drove in Stroud and Reeves to cap the Wingate scoring

WRAPUP

- Danielle Kirchhofer got the no-decision for Wingate, allowing one earned run in four innings, striking out five
- Scott earned her fifth win of the year on the sparkling outing
- McKenna Falwell took the loss for the Cavaliers, allowing seven earned runs in 4.2 innings, striking out two

- Scott hit a two-run homer in the first inning for her second of the day
- The freshman threw 6 1/3 innings to earn her second win of the day
- Brooks had a bases-clearing double, giving her a game-high 3 RBI
- Liles went two-for-three with a run scored
- Stroud drove in a run on one hit and scored twice
- Sydney Kale closed the door on the Cavaliers in the seventh inning

FIRST INNING

- McDermott hit a leadoff double to start the game
- Long drove her in on a single back to the pitcher
- Stroud walked and stole second to begin the home half of the inning
- After advancing on a groundout, Stroud scored on a Cavalier throwing error
- Scott made Wise pay for its defensive miscues with a two-out, two-run homer to give Wingate a 3-1 lead

SECOND INNING

- Liles singled and stole second to begin the second inning
- Stroud drove in Liles on a base-hit bunt
- Brooks cleared the bases on a double, advancing to third on the throw, giving Wingate a 7-1 lead
- Reeves got intentionally caught in a rundown and Brooks scored on the play to end the scoring in the second

FIFTH INNING

- UVA Wise scored its second run on a throwing error on a failed pickoff attempt

SEVENTH INNING

- The Cavaliers' didn't go out without a fight as Falwell and Mallory McKnight hit back-to-back homers to cut the deficit to four runs
- Kale entered to shut the door on Wise's comeback attempt

WRAPUP

- Scott got the win, her second of the day and sixth of the season
- She allowed three earned runs in 6 1/3 innings, striking out five and walking one
- Sydney Collins took the loss, allowing five earned runs in 1.1 innings, walking two and striking out one
