Wingate sets single-season home run record but drops two at #21 Carson-Newman

Jefferson City, Tenn.----The Wingate University Bulldogs blasted four more homers Saturday afternoon, setting a single-season program record with 51 homers on the season, but the 21st-ranked Carson-Newman University Eagles took both games of the doubleheader in South Atlantic Conference softball action. The Eagles improve to 27-9 overall and 8-6 in the SAC, while the Bulldogs fall to 24-15 overall and 6-6 in league play.

- Wingate out-hit Carson-Newman 11-10
- The Eagles had four of the seven extra-base hits, but the Bulldogs hit two of the three homers
- WU left 10 runners on the bases; Carson-Newman stranded five

- With the runners on first and second and two down, Macey Hughes hit a walk-off double down the right field line

- Carson-Newman's Morgan Baker-Celis got the win, retiring all three batters she faced in the seventh
- Sydney Kale took the loss for Wingate, allowing the winning run on one hit in a third of an inning

- Vandergriff drove in the pinch runner in the next at-bat
- She later scored on a Kennedy Warner single
- Natalie Corbin doubled down the line, driving in the run that sealed the victory
