Allendale, Mich.----Wingate University graduate student thrower Elliot Zirwas (Fort Pierce, Fla.) finished 16th in the men's shot put at the NCAA Division II outdoor national championship meet Saturday afternoon in the GVSU Track and Field Stadium on the campus of Grand Valley State University.

- The 2022 South Atlantic Conference shot put champion was seeded in flight #2 Saturday
- Zirwas' first throw covered 17.13 meters
- His second throw was a 17.28 meter effort, his best of three attempts
- Zirwas' third and final throw registered 17.14 meters
- Zirwas was the first WU thrower to qualify for an NCAA national championship meet
- He posted a career-best and school-record throw of 18.38 meters at the 2022 Charlotte 49er Classic
- Davenport (Iowa) senior Isaiah Schafer won the men's shot put with his career-best mark of 19.89 meters
- Grand Valley State sophomore Myles Kerner was second (19.22 meters)
- Top seed and Southern Connecticut State senior Turner Kelly finished third (19.00 meters)
