Wingate’s McLaughlin finishes junior season at NCAA D2 South Regional

Davie, Fla.----Wingate University junior Hailey McLaughlin completed her junior season with an 80 in the final round of the NCAA Division II South Regional women's golf tournament, hosted by Nova Southeastern University at the Grande Oaks Golf Club (par 71, 5887 yards). McLaughlin's 80 gave her a 54-hole total of 236. Twelve teams and 66 student-athletes competed in the tournament.

- The final day of the NCAA D2 South Regional featured three separate playoffs and a weather delay
- After the dust settled, No. 2 Lynn defeated No. 3 Limestone in an aggregate playoff on hole No. 18 to win the team title
- No. 6 Barry defeated No. 16 Saint Leo in an aggregate playoff (also on No. 18) to claim the fifth and final national championship berth
- No. 10 Lee and No. 5 Anderson will join Lynn, Limestone and Barry at the national championship site
- Individually, Barry junior Alice Götbring, the No. 1 golfer in D2, earned medalist honors
- She finished 54 holes at five-over-par 218
- Lee senior Alexandra Naumovski shot a tourney-best, two-under-par 69 Wednesday to finish second at 219
- Saint Leo senior Francesca Santoni joins Lander senior Hannah Stephenson as individual national championship qualifiers
- Santoni defeated Columbus State senior Victoria Libaak in a playoff on hole No. 10 to claim the final individual sport
- Forty-one of the 66 South Region individual participants are ranked in the top 100 of the Golfstat D2 relative rankings
- McLaughlin is No. 31, the highest-ranked South Atlantic Conference player not hailing from Limestone or Anderson
- The South Regional featured the top three players in D2
- Lynn sophomore Sara Ericsson and Limestone graduate student Ebba Hellman are second and third behind Barry's Götbring

I'm so proud of everything she has accomplished and can't wait to see her do it again next year!"
