Bulldogs fall 4-0 at Frostburg State in first contest in WU Field Hockey history

Frostburg, Md.----The Wingate University Bulldogs played their first-ever field hockey contest Thursday afternoon, traveling to Maryland to take on Frostburg State. The Bobcats prevailed 4-0 in the season opener to move to 1-0 overall, while Wingate falls to 0-1 on the year.

- Frostburg State outshot Wingate 16-7
- The Bobcats held an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal
- FSU attempted seven of the 11 penalty corners
- The Bobcats were called for 23 fouls compared to Wingate's 20

KEY BULLDOGS

- Hannah Colavita-Jones piled up seven saves for the 'Dogs
- Riley Robinson took four shots on the day
- She also registered both shots on goal for Wingate
- Alex Muscillo added a pair of shots
- Audrey Proulx also notched a shot for the visitors

FIRST QUARTER

- Wingate had a solid chance two minutes in on a penalty corner
- Robinson ripped a shot but it was turned away by the FSU goalie
- Muscillo followed up with a rebound attempt but that was blocked
- The Bobcats scored with just over two minutes left
- Emilie Bonhevert scored off a Madison Hackett assist to get FSU on the board

SECOND QUARTER

- Frostburg State took a 2-0 lead three minutes into the second frame
- Paige Leitzel was the goal scorer that put the Bobcats on top by two

THIRD QUARTER

- FSU struck four minutes into the second half to push the lead to three
- Bonhevert's second goal of the day created the three goal deficit
- Bonhevert's third goal of the day with 20 minutes left made it 4-0

FOURTH QUARTER

- Each team registered a shot on goal in the final frame
- Robinson's shot with 80 seconds left was turned away by the FSU keeper

UP NEXT

- It will be a quick turnaround for the Bulldogs, who are back in action Friday
- Wingate travels to #10 IUP for a 1 p.m. start Friday afternoon
- The 'Dogs play their first-ever home game Saturday, Sept. 10 at 11 a.m. against Coker
