#24 Wingate caps impressive week with sweep over Pioneers

Wingate, N.C.----Playing their third consecutive opponent that appeared in the 2021 NCAA Tournament this week, the Wingate University Bulldogs notched another impressive victory, sweeping past Tusculum University in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action in Cuddy Arena. Wingate won by scores of 25-17, 26-24 and 25-23 to improve to 16-1 overall and 7-0 in the SAC. The Pioneers fall to 4-6 overall and 4-3 in league play.

KEY STATS

- Wingate had 38 kills and 16 errors in 106 attacks, hitting .208
- Tusculum had 31 kills and 22 errors in 105 swings to hit .086
- The Pioneers held a 48-47 advantage in digs
- The Bulldogs had 10 of the 16 blocks

FIRST SET

- Kills from Ahrens and Stacherski gave the Bulldogs an 11-7 lead
- A Wingate error cut the lead to two at 15-13
- Back-to-back Kasprak aces made it 18-13
- Kills from Young and Lambillotte put the 'Dogs on top 21-14
- A Lambillotte kill and Kasprak block made it 24-16; Lambillotte ended it with a kill

SECOND SET

- A Martina Foster block gave Tusculum an 11-9 lead
- A Burrowes kill put the Pioneers on top 16-13
- WU scored the next four, with two Emily Johnson kills giving the 'Dogs a 17-16 advantage
- A Burrowes kill put TU on top 21-20, but a Saye kill and Lambillotte block put WU on top by one
- A Raven Chance kill tied it at 22
- A Tusculum error and Lambillotte block gave the 'Dogs a 24-22 advantage
- A Wingate error and Carly Pigza kill tied it at 24
- Lambillotte's kill put the 'Dogs back on top; a Tusculum error ended the frame

THIRD SET

- Two Lambillotte kills put the Bulldogs on top 7-3
- Two Isabella Biesterfeld gave the Pioneers an 11-9 lead
- Kills from Stacherski and Young, along with a Saye block gave the 'Dogs a 13-11 advantage
- Kills from Lambillotte and Kasprak pushed the lead to three at 17-14
- A Biesterfeld kill tied it at 19
- A Young kill and Kasprak ace put the 'Dogs on top 21-19
- TU scored the next three, taking a 22-21 lead on a Foster kill
