Hege and Clark notch double-doubles as ‘Dogs down JC Smith on Future Bulldog Day

Wingate, N.C.----The All-SAC duo of Emily Hege and Hannah Clark combined for 41 points and 20 rebounds Wednesday morning, leading the Wingate University Bulldogs to a 60-48 victory over Johnson C. Smith University on Future Bulldog Day in Cuddy Arena. Wingate improves to 3-0 overall, while the Golden Bulls fall to 0-1.

KEY STATS

- Wingate shot 39 percent from the field, hitting seven-of-13 threes (54 percent)
- JCSU shot 33 percent from the field, going five-for-17 from deep (29 percent)
- The Bulldogs held a 39-37 rebounding advantage and 5-4 edge in second-chance points
- Wingate outscored Johnson C. Smith 30-16 in the paint, with a 10-2 edge in fast-break points

SECOND QUARTER

- Hege buried a triple to stretch the lead to eight in the opening minute
- An Arrianna Jenkins jumper trimmed the lead to four with seven minutes left
- A Wilson triple and layup, along with a Hege bucket sparked a 7-0 run that made it 29-18
- JCSU cut it back to eight on a Kelis Carmon bucket with three minutes to go
- Hege answered with a layup to make it 33-23
- Two Harris Free throws cut the lead to eight heading to halftime

THIRD QUARTER

- A Wilson layup, followed by a Hege triple and jumper pushed the lead to 15 at the midway point
- A Lynese Johnson three cut the lead to nine with 1:46 remaining
- A Wilson layup and two Clark free throws made it 47-34 heading to the fourth

FOURTH QUARTER

- Clark's three put the 'Dogs on top 50-37 at the 9:18 mark
- A Breedlove bucket with four minutes left extended the lead back to 15 for the Bulldogs
- Johnson C. Smith got no closer than 12 the rest of the way
