Peters, Larsen and Thisgaard earn D2CCA first team All-Region honors

The Wingate University Bulldogs had three players earn first team All-Region accolades from the Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA). Midfielder Caroline Peters, defender Sascha Larsen and goalkeeper Katrine Thisgaard are all first team All-Southeast Region honorees.

The group helped lead Wingate to a 14-4-2 overall record, going 9-2 in league play. The Bulldogs earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season and eighth time in program history.

Peters picks up All-Region accolades for the second straight season. The first team All-SAC midfielder piled up eight goals and 13 assists on the year, netting five game-winning goals. She ranked eighth in the nation in assists per game and 14th in game-winners, while checking in at fourth in the SAC in points. Peters had at least one point in 14 of 20 games this year. She had five different games with at least a goal and an assist. She had a goal and an assist in wins over Belmont Abbey, Carson-Newman, Limestone and Emory & Henry. Peters had a goal and three assists in the SAC Tournament victory Lincoln Memorial.

Larsen is an All-Region selection for the second straight year. The first team All-SAC defender has anchored a WU defense that ranks second in the SAC and 20th in the nation with a 0.59 goals-against average. The 'Dogs are ninth in the nation in shutout percentage, piling up 12 shutouts on the year. In addition to her defensive efforts, Larsen was tied for the team lead with eight goals on the season, adding an assist to rank second on the team with 17 points, netting three game-winners. She had a goal in each of Wingate's first three games of the season against Barton, Mount Olive and Belmont Abbey. Larsen scored both goals in the 2-0 victory at Tusculum, while also scoring the game-winner against Coker in the regular season finale. Larsen also scored a goal in the SAC Tourney quarterfinal win over LMU.

Thisgaard earns All-Region honors for the first time in her career. The first team All-SAC goalkeeper posted a 0.60 goals-against average on the season, piling up a league-best 12 shutouts while also compiling a .808 save percentage. Thisgaard ranks in the top 20 in the nation in goals-against average and shutouts. She piled up six saves in the Carson-Newman shutout, while collecting five saves against Catawba. Thisgaard and the Bulldogs closed out the SAC regular season with seven straight shutouts.
