Elon, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs went on the road Saturday afternoon and picked up an impressive 72-53 victory at NCAA Division I foe Elon University in NCAA women's basketball action. The contest was an exhibition for the Bulldogs, but a regular season game for the Phoenix.
KEY STATS
- Wingate shot 43 percent from the field, going eight-for-17 from three-point range (47 percent)
- Elon shot 33 percent from the field, going three-for-16 from deep (19 percent)
- The Bulldogs held a 44-37 rebounding advantage; Elon had a 6-3 edge in second-chance points
- Wingate scored 10 points off 12 Elon turnovers
- The 'Dogs knocked down seven of their first nine three-point attempts on the day
- WU also went 16-for-18 at the free throw line (89 percent)

- An Ava Leroux jumper two minutes in gave Elon a 6-2 lead
- A Clark jumper and Breedlove triple put the 'Dogs on top 7-6
- Diamond Monroe's three with 5:11 to go tied it at 12
- Wingate closed the quarter on a 14-4 run to take a 26-16 advantage
- Clark knocked down a pair of threes in the flurry, while capping it with two free throws with three seconds left
SECOND QUARTER
- A Breedlove triple and Hege layup extended the lead to 15 at the 7:39 mark
- Threes from Beale and Baraldi made it 39-21 with 4:53 to go
- Another Baraldi triple, along with Anderson's layup put WU on top by 23 at the 2:13 mark
- Clark's jumper with 34 seconds left gave the 'Dogs a 48-25 halftime advantage
THIRD QUARTER
- Ruby Willard's layup two minutes in cut the lead to 18
- A Wilson layup and two Baraldi free throws pushed the lead back to 22 at 55-33
- A Monroe triple at the 3:10 mark made it 57-38
FOURTH QUARTER
- Hege buried a three at the 7:37 mark to give Wingate a 60-38 lead
- A Maraja Pass layup with 3:41 to go cut the lead to 15
- Layups from Hege and Wilson made it 66-49 with 1:31 remaining
