#24 Wingate takes two from Sharks to finish off four-game sweep

Wingate, N.C.----The #24 Wingate University Bulldogs swept the Nova Southeastern University Sharks on Saturday afternoon at Ron Christopher Stadium in NCAA Division II baseball action. Wingate won by scores of 4-3 and 9-3 to finish off an impressive four-game sweep over the Sharks to move to 8-3 overall, while Nova falls to a 3-6 record.

KEY STATS
 
- Nova Southeastern out-hit Wingate 16-8 in the game
- The 'Dogs had three of the four extra-base hits 
- Both squads left 11 runners on base in the contest

KEY BULLDOGS
 
- Seaver King went three-for-four with a double and homer, driving in three in the game
- Austin Mitchell earned the winning decision on the mound, pitching 5 2/3 innings with six strikeouts, allowing two runs and no walks
- Michael Dansky also notched a multi-hit game going two-for-five with a double and two runs
- Sean Barnett, Mitch Farris, and Carson Simpson collected got hits in the win
- Cal Riehl and Zach Gonsiorowski finished off the game on the mound, with Gonsiorowski earning the save over two innings

- Daniel Irisari doubled in the first run of the game, scoring Duncan Pastore
- Irisari ended up coming home after an Ihosvany Castaneda single, putting NSU up 2-0.
- King knocked connected on a two-run home run on the second at-bat of the inning, scoring Dansky and tying the game at two

- Kell Smith scored off of a Ricky Clark single, giving the 'Dogs a one-run lead

 - Kristian Norriega brought home a Sharks run on a single to cut Wingate's lead to 4-3

- Mitchell earned the win, moving to 2-0 on the season
- Gonsiorowski notched his first save of the year after finishing the last two innings with three strikeouts
- Cooper Omans took the loss for NSU, allowing three earned runs in five innings of work

SEVENTH INNING
- Nova Southeastern was able to score in the final inning on a Jarrett Hall double in a pinch-hit appearance, scoring Ryan Cainzos and finishing off the scoring at 9-3

- Wingate hits the road for four straight, first in a non-conference game against Lander on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
- The 'Dogs finish the week opening conference play at Mars Hill on Friday for the first of a three-game set finishing Saturday
