Wingate caps 4-1 weekend with 5-0 victory over Gannon

Columbus, Ga.----The Wingate University Bulldogs capped an impressive weekend with a shutout Sunday morning, prevailing 5-0 against Gannon University on the final day of the NFCA Lead-Off Classic in NCAA Division II softball action. Wingate improves to 16-5 overall, winning 12 of its last 13 overall. The Knights fall to 1-4 on the season.

- The Bulldogs had the only two extra-base hits
- The Knights committed both errors on the contest

KEY BULLDOGS

- Hannah Stevens scored two runs on the day
- Savannah Lampley and Savanna Brooks also scored runs
- Jillian Thomas tossed 3 2/3 shutout frames for the win, while adding a hit at the plate
- Raechel Cutcher tossed a perfect inning with two strikeouts
- Hali Scott got the final seven outs without allowing a hit

FIFTH INNING

- Stevens drew a one-out walk
- She scored on an RBI double from Liles to get Wingate on the board

SIXTH INNING

- A Hannah Reeves two-out single, followed by back-to-back walks loaded the bases
- Kramer ripped a three-run double to left center to make it 4-0
- She scored when Liles reached on an error to give the 'Dogs a five-run cushion

WRAPUP

- Thomas got the win, moving to 1-1 on the year
- She allowed a pair of singles in 3 2/3 shutout frames, striking out three and walking two
- Scott tossed 2 1/3 no-hit innings to notch her second save of the season
- Josie Spano took the loss, allowing five runs on five hits in six innings

- Wingate returns home Wednesday, opening SAC play at home against Newberry at 1 p.m.
