Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs fell in double-overtime against the Lenoir-Rhyne University Bears 108-105 in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball on Wednesday night in Cuddy Arena. The Bears improve to 9-13 overall, 4-10 in the SAC, while the Bulldogs drop to 14-9 overall and 9-5 in conference games.

FIRST HALF
- LJ McCoy hit an early three to jump the Bears out to a 7-2 start
- Nixon and Wilson knocked down threes halfway through the period to pull Wingate back to within two at 20-18
- TJ Nesmith scored seven straight points for Lenoir-Rhyne, but a Wilson triple gave Wingate its first lead with three minutes to go in the half at 31-28
- Trailing by as many as six at points in the opening half, the 'Dogs went to the locker room with a two-point advantage
SECOND HALF
- Threes from Jalen Johnson and McCoy tied the contest back up early in the second half at 38
- Nixon put in six of the next 10 points for Wingate to keep pace with LR, tying at 48 in the seventh minute of the period
- The fast pace of the game continued with neither team finding a decisive edge, going into the final six minutes tied at 66 after Malik LeGania and Nesmith delivered a quick spurt for the Bears
- In crunch time, the 'Dogs went on a 12-3 scoring run to take a lead into the final minute
- Wilson and Nixon buried clutch shots to give Wingate a 79-73 lead with 51 seconds left
- A Nesmith three-point play and dunk cut the lead to one with 22 seconds to go
- Nesmith's three-point play with 10 seconds remaining gave LR a two-point lead
- Cottingham went coast-to-coast in the final seconds to make a game-tying layup and send the game to overtime knotted up at 81
OVERTIME
- Lenoir-Rhyne went on a 9-3 scoring run to start the extra period, punctuated by a three-point make from Cooper Fowler
- WU closed the gap over the next 40 seconds with Nixon making three free throws and Wilson following up with a triple to tie the game at 90
- The 'Dogs kept the momentum up with an 11-2 scoring run heading into the final seconds over the period
- Massey scored the go-ahead bucket and Clark added a free throw to go up by three with 13 seconds.
- Fowler made a three on the other end to tie the game at 95, and Nixon couldn't get a shot off to win the game
DOUBLE OVERTIME
- LR opened the period on the front foot, getting points from the line and a LeGania layup before Nixon hit a three for Wingate to knot it up at 98
- The Bears followed it up with a 10-2 run, taking an eight-point lead into the final minute fueled by LeGania and Johnson making free throws
- Nixon's layup and Wilson's late three off a turnover clinched both career-high scoring nights, as well as gave Wingate hope with three seconds left trailing by three points.
- Tyson missed both free throws following Wilson's triple, but Nixon's full court shot fell short at the buzzer

- Wingate hits the road on Saturday for a trip to play UVA-Wise on Saturday, tip scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
- The 'Dogs then get a full week off prior to the home finale against Carson-Newman on February 18th.
