#19 Bulldogs and Wasps split doubleheader

Emory, Va.----The 19th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs moved to 7-1 in league play Saturday afternoon, picking up a 4-3 victory in game two of the doubleheader at Emory & Henry after the Wasps prevailed 5-3 in the opener. Wingate moves to 23-6 overall and 7-1 in the SAC, while the Wasps go to 10-9 overall and 5-3 in league play.

- Wingate out-hit Emory & Henry 9-5
- Each team had three extra-base hits and two homers
- The Bulldogs left five on base; the Wasps stranded four
- The 'Dogs had the lone stolen base
- E&H pitching struck out seven without a walk; WU had seven strikeouts and four walks

KEY BULLDOGS

- Alyssa Hall was two-for-three with a homer
- Ragan Liles also homered for the Bulldogs
- Savanna Brooks went two-for-three with an RBI

- A grand slam from Morgan Silvis gave the Wasps an early 4-0 lead

- Hobgood started the inning with a single, then stole second

- A solo homer from Rachel Hill in the bottom of the frame pushed the lead back to four

SEVENTH INNING

- Hall led off the frame with a solo shot to center to make it 5-2
- Liles added a solo shot of her own to pull the 'Dogs within two
- Hobgood followed with a triple, but the game ended on a popout

WRAPUP

- Avery Adkins got the win, allowing three runs on nine hits in seven innings, striking out seven
- Raechel Cutcher took the loss, allowing five runs on five hits in six innings, striking out seven and walking four

- Hobgood then stole second, with Liles scoring on an error on the play to put the 'Dogs on top

- Liles led off the frame with a double to left center
- She scored on Kahlich's RBI single to make it 3-1

SIXTH INNING

- A two-run single from Makayla Dowdy tied it at three

SEVENTH INNING

- Kahlich put the Bulldogs back on top with a solo shot in the seventh, making it 4-3
- The Wasps got a leadoff walk in the bottom of the frame
- Scott got a strikeout, popout and flyout to end the game

WRAPUP

- Scott got the win, moving to 6-2 on the year
- She allowed three runs on seven hits in seven innings, striking out eight and walking three
- Avery Adkins took the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits in seven innings of work
