#10 Wingate cruises to 18-8 victory over Wolves

Wingate, N.C.----Wingate University sophomore Danielle Scarfogliero poured in a career-high five goals Wednesday afternoon, leading the 10th-ranked Bulldogs to an 18-8 victory over Newberry College in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action at Irwin Belk Stadium. The 'Dogs improve to 8-2 overall and 4-0 in the SAC, while the Wolves fall to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in league play.

FIRST QUARTER

- Knowles put Wingate back on top, scoring off a Kamer assist at the 4:23 mark
- Scarfogliero scored 33 seconds later to make it 3-1

SECOND QUARTER

- Watson scored off a Knowles assist five minutes into the second to push the lead to three
- Elias scored twice in a one-minute stretch to make it 4-3 with 6:55 remaining
- Kamer answered with a goal off a Watson assist 90 seconds later
- Knowles scored with 5:02 to go to make it 6-3
- Cassell Richardson cut the lead back to two with a goal with 2:41 to go
- The 'Dogs scored three times in the final 95 seconds of the half to take a five-goal lead
- Knowles started the scoring to make it 7-4
- Ruiz scored twice in a 16-second span, with Kamer assisting on both to make it 9-4 at halftime

THIRD QUARTER

- Marissa Plumer scored five minutes into the half to pull the Wolves within four
- Ruiz and Pellet scored in a one-minute span to make it 11-5 with 7:49 to go
- Elias answered with a goal to cut the lead back to five with five minutes left
- Wingate scored the final three goals of the frame, starting with a Knowles goal off Clouser's assist
- Scarfogliero scored twice off two assists from Knowles in the final 90 seconds to make it 14-6

FOURTH QUARTER

- Jobs and Plumer scored in the first four minutes to cut the lead to six
- The 'Dogs scored the final four goals of the game
- Wilgeroth started the spurt with 10:09 remaining
- Pellet's goal off a Fuchs assist made it 16-8 with 6:17 to go
- Scarfogliero scored off another Knowles assist at the 4:08 mark
- Pellet scored off a Ruiz assist with 1:58 remaining to give WU a 10-goal lead
