Hannah Reeves named Varsity Gems SAC Player of the Week

Rock Hill, S.C.----Wingate University senior first baseman Hannah Reeves has been named the Varsity Gems South Atlantic Conference softball Player of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday morning. Reeves earns the honor for the first time in her career.

Reeves had a big week, leading the Bulldogs to a 4-0 mark as Wingate picked up four league victories. She went eight-for-12 at the plate, hitting .667 with three homers, nine RBI and five runs scored.

Reeves started her week by going one-for-two with a run scored in the opener against Newberry. She went three-for-three in game two with a homer and four RBI. Reeves homered in the game one victory at UVA Wise Sunday. She capped her week by going three-for-three with another homer, four RBI and two runs scored in the finale against the Cavs, helping the Bulldogs blast nine homers on the day.

Reeves is hitting .431 on the season with eight homers, 25 RBI and 22 runs scored. She has an .862 slugging percentage and .538 on-base percentage. Reeves ranks third in the SAC in homers and slugging percentage, fourth in total bases and on-base percentage, sixth in RBI and 10th in batting average. With Reeves leading the way, the Bulldogs rank second in the nation in homers, while leading the nation in runs scored, ranking fifth in hits and seventh in on-base percentage. Reeves ranks sixth in the nation in homers and 24th in RBI.

Wingate is back in action at 1 p.m. Tuesday, hosting a SAC doubleheader against Coker.
