Newberry, S.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs earned a series win at fifth-ranked Newberry College with a win in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. Wingate took the opener by a final score of 5-4, while dropping the nightcap 3-2 at Smith Road Complex in South Atlantic Conference baseball action. Wingate moves to 26-15 overall and 15-6 in the SAC, while the Wolves go to 33-8 overall and 16-4 in league play.

- After moving to third base on a groundout, King brought Motsinger home with an RBI single through the right side to give the 'Dogs a 1-0 lead
- Jomar Lugo and Donovan Ford combined with hits to give Newberry two on with nobody out in the bottom half of the inning
- Jacob LeBron grounded out to tie the game, before Braylin Marine knocked in the go-ahead run, pushing the Wolves to a 2-1 advantage. 
 
FIFTH INNING

- King lifted a home run over the left field wall to knot the game up at 2-2
 
SIXTH INNING

- Barnett was hit by a pitch to put the lead-off hitter on base
- Assisted by a Newberry fielding error, Barnett came in to score the go-ahead run on a Williams-Rhem single to right center, giving WU 3-2 lead. 
 
EIGHTH INNING

- Motsinger picked up another hit to ignite the inning with one out 
- King continued his offensive tear with an RBI single up the middle, bringing home Motsinger from second base and adding insurance to a 4-2 cushion
- The Wolves stormed back in the home half, connecting on hits, walks, and a key double from Rhett Jolly to retie the game at 4-4
 
NINTH INNING

- Barnett led off the final inning with a single down the left field line, then moved to second on a wild pitch
- With Barnett at third, Williams-Rhem advanced to first on a strikeout as Barnett scored the decisive run on a wild pitch, giving WU its winning advantage of 5-4
 
WRAPUP

- Sam Brodersen got the win in relief, getting two outs, allowing two hits and one earned run with a strikeout and a walk
- Brodersen's win takes him to a 4-2 on the season
- Corey Avant collected his fourth save of the season by finishing off the final two outs of the game while adding a strikeout
- Joe LaFiora took the loss out of the Wolves bullpen by giving up the tie in the ninth inning

- King plated McKay with an RBI double to tie the game at one
- WU jumped in front on an RBI double by Adams to right center, driving in King to take a 2-1 lead
 
SIXTH INNING

- The 'Dogs got a quick first two outs, but the Wolves rallied to score Marine off the bat of a Kade Faircloth single, tying the matchup at two
- After a Wingate pitching change, Jesse Free drove home the de-facto winning run, bringing in Faircloth on a single to left handing Newberry its 3-2 lead
 
WRAPUP

- Dotson took the loss, falling to 1-3 in this season
- He went 5 2/3 innings, allowing just four hits, two earned runs, no walks with three strikeouts
- Bryce Peterson got the win with 1 1/3 innings of relief action and no runs against him
- Trevor Linaman pitched the final inning to earn the save, walking two and striking out one
