SAC CHAMPS!! #5 Wingate cruises past Coker to cap perfect SAC regular season

Wingate, N.C.----The fifth-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs wrapped up their first-ever undefeated SAC regular season Saturday afternoon, rolling to a 24-7 victory over Coker University in South Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse action at Irwin Belk Stadium. The Bulldogs win their 10th straight, moving to 11-1 overall and 9-0 in the SAC. The Cobras fall to 7-7 overall and 3-5 in league play. Wingate captures its fifth SAC title in program history, with two regular season championships to go along with three SAC Tourney titles.

FIRST PERIOD

- Wingate scored all eight goals in the opening frame
- Grieco scored two of the first three goals, with Riley adding a goal and an assist in the spurt
- Dorr scored off a Grieco assist at the 12-minute mark to make it 4-0
- Grant scored at the 6:48 mark to push the lead to five
- Cottage scored off Grieco's assist two minutes later to make it 6-0
- Grieco and Castle scored off assists from Spence and Papach to cap the opening period

SECOND PERIOD

- Riley scored off a Cottage assist, followed by Cottage scoring off Riley's assist to make it 11-1 with 8:28 to go
- Papach scored at the 4:12 mark off a Cottage assist to make it 12-1
- Riley scored the final two goals of the half to put the 'Dogs on top by 13

THIRD PERIOD

- Lingasin scored two minutes into the second half to make it 15-1
- Woolfe scored off a Schmidt assist with eight minutes left to make it 16-2
- Robertson's goal at the 7:07 mark extended the lead to 15
- McMahon scored off a Baker assist at the 2:38 mark
- Taylor scored off a Moltisanti assist with a minute left to make it 19-2

FOURTH PERIOD

- Woolfe scored three minutes in to make it 20-3
- Pizzimenti found the back of the net off a Samson assist at the 7:46 mark
- Riley scored 30 seconds later off a Cottage assist to make it 22-4
- Mercer got in the scoring column with 4:18 to go to extend the lead to 19
- Goss capped Wingate's scoring at the 2:36 mark off a Mercer assist to make it 24-5
